Historic Larimer County's Small Towns Preservation Workshop yesterday was a wonderful event! Thanks to everyone who attended from up and down the Front Range and to the folks from History Colorado and the Colorado Department of Local Affairs who presented and answered numerous questions. And thanks to Pastor Esteban and the Hispanic Foursquare Church, who hosted us in their beautiful 1904 building in downtown Berthoud. We'll likely be scheduling this event every year or two for those who couldn't make it this time.

Two days ago I led a walking tour in Fort Collins for more than forty CDOT staffers from throughout the state, all of them involved in managing the highway department's environmental and historic preservation programs. They were in town for a two-day retreat. The tour focused upon historic transportation resources. We visited the 1919 Municipal Railway Barn where the city's streetcars were stored and maintained to talk about streetcars as the precursors to modern-day light rail. We also toured the Colorado & Southern Railway's 1906 freight depot, which now serves the city as its multimodal Downtown Transit Center. Thanks to Jim Eussen and Jason Marmor for inviting me to lead the tour!

Attended the grand opening of the new Poudre River Whitewater Park in downtown Fort Collins this morning. I served as the project's historical consultant for the master plan and follow-up studies for about five years. It was such a treat to see the huge crowd, including city staff, elected officials, consultants and contractors, major donors, and many, many members of the public. There were even a couple dozen kayaks already in the river despite the cold water. And a group of women who rode their horses to the event.

Thanks to the City of Fort Collins for seriously taking my advice and preserving the historic Coy Ditch head gate and floodwall structure and the historic Quonset building, which is a rare resource in the city. Also for saving a piece of the historic water infiltration gallery associated with the mid-1930s municipal light and power plant. This is a project to be very proud of, for me and the city. It activated an underutilized and unwelcoming stretch of the river, and will be a great public amenity for years to come. Go check the place out!
