This week, I’m reflecting on how being specific in your networking ask can completely transform the results you get. I recently had 3 conversations where the other parties were super clear about who they were looking to connect with, and guess what? It led to real referrals!

Here’s how you can get specific and elevate your networking:

💡 Analyze Your Current Clients: Know who your best clients are and what makes them ideal.

🎯 Develop Your Client Avatar: Create a detailed profile of your ideal client to narrow your focus and target the right people.

📣 Create Multiple Elevator Pitches: Have a variety of asks ready for different networking situations. The more tailored you are, the more referrals you’ll get!

Are You in the Wrong Room? 🤔

How to Find the Right Networking Group for Your Business

"I tried that type of group before; it wasn't for me." I hear this all the time. But before you swear off networking groups altogether, let’s dig deeper. The truth is, it’s often not the type of group—it’s that you’re in the wrong room.

Here’s the secret: No two networking groups are the same! Even if they follow the same format, the vibe and value can vary greatly depending on who’s in the room. So, when evaluating a group, ask yourself: 1. Who is my ideal client? 2. Who are my ideal referral partners?

Networking isn’t just about selling directly to everyone you meet. It’s about connecting with people who can introduce you to your ideal clients. Think referral partners—those who serve your ideal clients but aren’t direct competitors. They can open doors you didn’t even know existed!

Here’s how to get started:

Identify your ideal referral partners. Who already serves your ideal clients?

Build trust. Invest time in getting to know potential partners and their businesses.

Leverage their networks. Ask for introductions once you’ve established trust.

Reciprocate. Networking is a two-way street—refer clients back to your partners.

If you’re questioning whether you’re in the right room, take a step back and consider who you’re surrounded by. Are they potential clients or potential connectors? If there’s a gap, it might be time to find a new room!
