The System Works!

On September 1st, defeated an eight-term incumbent. Months before a single ballot was counted, our team had built an organizing strategy around one number: 14,765, our projected path to victory.

Persis finished with 15,609 votes!!

But this story isn’t really about a number. It’s about what happens when relationships, data, and disciplined grassroots organizing work together.

Anthony pulled back the curtain on the strategy we built for this race. Accessing how we analyzed the district, identified opportunities, prioritized limited resources, and helped turn a path on paper into a winning coalition.

For organizers, candidates, campaign staff, and anyone who has ever wondered what we mean when we say “organizing is more than knocking doors and making calls,” this one is worth the read.

Congratulations Persis Yu on becoming the Democratic Nominee for State Senate in the Norfolk & Suffolk Senate District. We couldn’t be more proud to be a part of this team.

Persis ran a true grassroots campaign, challenging a 15 year incumbent, while taking PAC or corporate money.

The campaign knocked over 25K doors, made over 10K phone calls, thousands of texts, and activated over 100 volunteers! Ads, endorsements, and mailers can never replace the power of direct voter contact!

From an interview at Boston Public Schools to this moment right here… what a journey!

I ( ) first met Hudson when he interviewed to intern with me in BPS’s Office of Opportunity Gaps while completing his Northeastern co-op. Out of everyone I met, I connected immediately. I saw something in him, the spark, the passion, the drive and I knew I wanted him on the team.

Even after I transitioned out and The Davis System began, what could’ve been the end of a mentorship only deepened. Hudson went on to intern for Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, then moved to France for policy research. But through every chapter, he remained rooted with us, supporting The Davis System and leaving his mark, especially through The Organizing Accelerator and the numerous campaigns he supported.

Today, it is my esteemed honor to celebrate him as a DOUBLE Husky, earning his Master’s in Public Policy, and stepping into a full-time role with Mayor Michelle Wu’s campaign.

Hudson is no longer just a mentee or friend, he is family. And we are so incredibly proud of the leader he is and the one he is becoming.

Please join us in celebrating him, and his partner Ben, who also graduated with his Masters and is working on cancer research. The future is in good hands. 💫

Five cohorts. Almost 60 students trained. And a continuously growing network of leaders stepping into government, campaigns, and public service across Massachusetts.

This work continues to affirm what we’ve always known, when you invest in people, you build power that lasts.

We are so proud to celebrate the graduation of our 5th cohort at Salem State University. It’s an honor to do this work in collaboration with the Commonwealth’s Institute of Politics and to help shape the next generation of organizers and changemakers.

Congratulations to this year’s cohort, your impact is just getting started!!

Thank you to President Keenan, Director Cynthia Lynch, Deputy Hannah Levine and the entire IOP Staff for your continued support, and to our Viking family, we’re just getting started… here’s to the next five years of good trouble together!

Still carrying the energy from this past weekend at the Harvard Kennedy School Black Policy Conference

Grateful to be in the room with leaders and changemakers like Senator Liz Miranda , Former Council President Ruthzee Louijeune , Councilor Miniard Culpepper , and our friends Eddie Rupia and Chip Greenidge , alongside so many familiar faces committed to the work.

There’s something powerful about being surrounded by young Black political leadership, grounded in purpose, pushing critical conversations, and building real solutions for our communities.

Thank you to the organizers and speakers for creating space for connection, strategy, and impact. We left inspired, challenged, and ready to keep building.

This past weekend, was in the room with organizers and advocates from Mass Alliance, a statewide coalition building power for progressive causes and candidate campaigns across Massachusetts.

Part 1 of the training focused on the foundation: voter targeting + election math, breaking down how to identify your universe, set winning goals, and build a path to victory rooted in real numbers, not guesswork.

Because strong campaigns don’t just talk about winning… they map it out.

Last week traveled with to Oklahoma on behalf of . The 14 stop, 2 day trip was full of really engaging meetings and stops that allowed them to not only feel the energy of change but witness it in action. From meetings with Mayors, who have so much pride in the work they are doing in their cities; to meeting with exciting candidates for office, looking to bring a new wave of leadership and fresh ideas to the state; and of course meeting with our partners and attending CivicsCon event, power for change is being built across the state of Oklahoma and we’re so proud to get to play a little part in it!
