Think hiring a general manager is your ticket to working less? Think again.

Chris Cooper made that exact assumption when he hired his first GM.But instead of freeing up his time, the hire created more work for him.

That's because hiring someone won't solve the problems you haven't fixed yourself. Before handing over the keys, your gym needs to prove it can support the expense. And even then, your GM shouldn't be responsible for growing your business.

The goal is to build a team that can maintain your standards while you focus on what's next.

Hiring a general manager too early could actually make your gym LESS profitable.

According to Two-Brain founder Chris Cooper, hiring a GM should be one of the last steps you take to buy back your time, not the first.

Before making that hire, you should already be earning close to $100,000 a year from your gym and have systems in place for someone else to run.

In this episode of “Run a Profitable Gym,” Chris breaks down when to hire a GM, how to structure their pay and the five steps to training them to run your gym without you.

A great GM can give you your time back, but they can't fix a business that isn't profitable.

Tres Kennedy nearly doubled his gym’s price, and his close rate barely changed.

By offering more coaching instead of simply more access, Tres increased his price from $150 to $285 for new members while improving retention, attendance and PT.
In this episode, John Franklin and Tres break down the change and role-play how to handle common sales objections.

Tres Kennedy thought $150 a month was about as much as people in his small Alabama town would pay for personal training and unlimited group classes.

He was wrong.

After changing the way he packaged and prescribed coaching, Tres nearly doubled his price. The shift didn’t just affect revenue. It changed his close rate, staff pay and retention.

In this episode of “Run a Profitable Gym,” John Franklin sits down with Tres to break down exactly what changed and how other gym owners can apply the same lessons.

Then they put it into practice.

John and Tres role-play a real sales consultation and work through three objections every gym owner has heard:

“I need to think about it.”
“That’s more than I expected.”
“I need to talk to my spouse.”

Learn how to price your coaching with confidence, handle objections without getting pushy and keep the sale moving when a prospect hesitates.

Nearly 60% of gym owners say not earning enough is their biggest struggle.

So how can hiring someone actually help you make more money?

It comes down to hiring in the right order.

In this episode of “Run a Profitable Gym,” Chris Cooper explains how to calculate what your time is really worth, identify the first task you should hand off and make sure the time you buy back actually produces a return.

Because the goal is not to build a bigger payroll. The goal is to get low-value tasks off your plate so you can spend more time doing the work that grows your gym.

Chris also shares the first hire that taught him this lesson and explains why the job that feels most urgent might not be the one you should fill first.
