🚨 The Dark Side of Buy Here, Pay Here Dealerships 🚨
Not every “Guaranteed Approval” sign is a blessing.
Many Buy Here, Pay Here dealerships target people with bad or limited credit—but the hidden costs can be devastating.
⚠️ Here’s what to watch out for:
* Sky-high interest rates that can cost thousands more over the life of the loan.
* Overpriced vehicles that may already have high mileage or mechanical issues.
* Little to no warranty, leaving you responsible for expensive repairs.
* Quick repossessions if you fall behind on payments.
* GPS trackers or starter-interrupt devices installed on some vehicles, allowing the dealer to locate or even disable the car after default, depending on the contract and state law.
* Limited credit-building benefits. Some BHPH dealers report only missed payments—not your positive payment history—so making every payment on time may not help your credit as much as you expect. If you’re considering one, ask in writing whether they report on-time payments to all three major credit bureaus.
💡 Before signing anything:
* Compare financing through a credit union or bank first.
* Read every page of the contract.
* Ask for the total amount you’ll pay—not just the monthly payment.
* Get the vehicle inspected by an independent mechanic before buying.
Remember: A guaranteed approval doesn’t always mean it’s a good deal. The goal isn’t just to drive off the lot—it’s to build wealth, not debt.
