Did you know the IRS has a new mobile app?

The IRS recently replaced IRS2Go with a new app simply called IRS, giving taxpayers secure access to more IRS services right from their mobile device.

With the new IRS app, taxpayers can:
• Check refund and amended return status
• View available account balances
• Make payments and review payment history
• View select IRS notices and letters
• Access tax records and transcripts
• Access an Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN)

One important reminder: Be sure you're downloading the official IRS app through verified IRS links or the official app stores. You can find more information by accessing the official IRS article below.

2026 Business Mileage Rate Update

If you use your vehicle for business, there’s an important mileage update to keep in mind for the second half of 2026.

The IRS has increased the standard business mileage rate to 76¢ per mile, effective July 1, 2026. The rate for business mileage from January 1 through June 30 was 72.5¢ per mile.

That means it’s important to keep your mileage records separated by date and use the appropriate rate for each period.

Whether you’re self-employed, operating an S corporation, or reimbursing employees for business mileage, proper mileage tracking and documentation remain important.

We’ve put together a quick overview of the 2026 mileage rate change, including what the mid-year adjustment means for your records.

A quick reminder as we head into September… 📅

If you filed an extension, the next couple of months have some important tax deadlines to keep in mind.

September 15 — Many calendar-year partnerships and S corporations with extensions have a September 15 filing deadline.

October 15 — Individuals and C corporations who filed an extension generally have until October 15 to file.

If your return is still on the to-do list, now is a good time to make sure your documents are in and any outstanding questions have been addressed.

And just a reminder: an extension gives you additional time to file, not additional time to pay.

We’re getting closer to the finish line on extended returns. If you’re a Capstone client and still have items outstanding, take a look at your emails from our team and make sure we have what we need.

Mark your calendar — September 15 and October 15 will be here before we know it.

One of the biggest changes has been our expansion into Fort Mill, SC, allowing us to strengthen our presence in the greater Piedmont region and continue providing the personalized service our clients have come to expect.
