Mold growth (Myxomycetes/ Periconia/ S**t) growing through Kilz Anti-fungal sealant paint. Kills is not the solution to mold remediation. You must correct the source of the moisture and physically remove mold impacted building materials to be effective.

Update: wanted to check in. Haven’t been posting on social media much due to busy schedules but there is so much to talk about. Today I spoke to a new client where a out of state Mold remediation contractor used a local inspector to pull samples and tell them they have baby mold spores. They proceeded to charge him for the inspection by using the third party and then charged him for a do it yourself mold remediation cleaning kit called a Mold Bomb and sold him a warranty. If it sounds rediculious it likely is. If you are sold a mold remediation kit for thousands of dollars and hear the words Mold Warranty they are not worth your time and are likely dishonest. More on this new case and it’s outcome as it proceeds. Maybe we can learn something along the way. Also more to come on roof cavity insulation and spray in foam insulation.

So much fear and emphasis on ‘black mold’ or specifically Stachybotrys Chartarum that we have ignored the real health risks of the remaining known pathogenic in humans species Including newly discovered ones. Man made? Natural evolution? Or both?

What a condenser cooling coil system of an air conditioning system air handler looks like after someone applies bleach. Any AC contractor that says Bleach is ok to use in an air handler is either ignorant and should loose their AC contractor license or is trying to purposely destroy your air handler. Bleach is an oxidizing chemical and will destroy soft metals like copper.

Images of the month: What happens when your bathroom vent is not installed correctly and does not have a stop valve to prevent air from being pulled into the interior of your home. Hot and humid air will be pulled into the interior of the home when the air conditioning system is running causing humidity levels to be elevated and cause conditions conducive for mold growth. The thermal images show the headed surface of the exhaust vent pulling warm air into the bathroom from the roof cavity. Why the roof cavity you ask? Because the vent ends with no stop louver vent or valve just above the insulation above the bathroom in questions. Always make sure your exhaust vents are properly installed to building codes. It will prevent a lot of humidity related damage.
