Although Eta was downgraded to a Tropical Storm by the time it got to the US, it hit Central America as a Category 4 Hurricane. Eta is the strongest storm to impact the region since Hurricane Mitch in 1998, according to World Vision.
“The initial estimate suggests 2,235,000 people may be impacted by the severe flooding,” says Joao Diniz, Latin America and the Caribbean regional leader for World Vision. “The flooding and winds have damaged roads, bridges, and communications infrastructure, isolating many communities.”
Our agency will be collecting non-perishable items including canned food, battery operated flashlights, blankets, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, face masks, etc.
We will be collecting items over the next few weeks and they will be taken to the Consulate General of Honduras in Miami to then be transported. Please help us by dropping off a few items to our Fort Myers office: 2132 McGregor Blvd, Fort Myers, FL 33901. Items can be left at the front or back door to the office.
