A Beechcraft King Air landed itself at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport near Denver on Dec. 20, 2025 after an in flight emergency, in what Garmin confirmed was the first real world Emergency Autoland activation.

Now that same safety tech is moving into a new category. Honda Aircraft says the HondaJet Elite II has received FAA approval for Garmin Emergency Autoland, making it the first production twin turbine very light business jet certified to use the system.

What it does is straightforward, and pretty wild: if the pilot can’t fly, a passenger can press the Autoland button and the aircraft can declare an emergency, pick a suitable airport, fly the approach, land, and stop while communicating key info to air traffic control. It’s not a replacement for pilots, but it is a real backup plan for the rare nightmare scenario when the cockpit can’t.
