Heading to the Hwy 11 Yard Sale this weekend? You never know what treasures you’ll find… but unfortunately pests like bed bugs and roaches love secondhand items too. 👀

Before bringing furniture, mattresses, electronics, or clothing into your home:
✔️ Check seams, cracks, and corners for tiny dark spots, shed skins, or live bugs
✔️ Be cautious with upholstered furniture and mattresses
✔️ Inspect cardboard boxes and small appliances where roaches like to hide
✔️ Wash and dry clothing on high heat before bringing it inside
✔️ If possible, leave items in the garage while you inspect them

Alabama livestock and pet owners should be on the lookout for a new pest. Last month, the Asian longhorned tick was detected for the first time in the state on a dog in DeKalb County. While several other tick species are common in Alabama, the reproductive capabilities of this tick create an enhanced health concern for animals.
