Sorry everyone, it does look like most of the rain is going to clear up today, except for Fort Pierce. The market will still go on, but I will not. See you all next week!

35 mushroom poisonings. 3 deaths. All from ONE toxic lookalike: the death cap. 🍄

Spring “super blooms” are making foraging riskier—experts say ID isn’t just a photo match (size, odor, habitat, season all matter). 🌿

Do you forage, or stick to store-bought?

Plastic bags are basically a slime factory for your mushrooms 🍄❌

Try this instead: unwashed mushrooms go *loosely* into an uncoated brown paper bag—plastic can make them spoil up to **60% faster**.

Are you team plastic or team brown bag?

Your mushrooms are going slimy because they can’t *breathe* 😬🍄
Storing them in plastic can spike humidity by **22–35% in just 12 hours**—hello slime.

Fix: move them to a paper bag + a paper towel on the fridge middle shelf 🧊✅

🍄 Mushrooms might be “talking” in the forest… with electricity. ⚡🔬

Scientists found forest mushrooms can *flexibly change their electrical information flow* when disturbed—like a living network that reroutes signals.

What do you think they’re “saying” out there? 🌿

Mushrooms aren’t a topping—they’re the flavor engine. 🍄🔥
Caramelize shallots until sweet, then pile on sautéed mushrooms + double cheese for a next-level umami pizza (and a sneaky way to eat more mushrooms). 🧀🍕

What mushroom would you use for this—cremini, shiitake, or oyster?

Most mushrooms shrink into “where’d it go?”… but this one doesn’t. 🍄🔥
King oyster mushrooms stay thick and hearty when you sear them—thanks to that dense stalk—so you actually get a steak-like bite (and big umami) without the meat. 🥩✨

Would you try a mushroom “steak”?

Would you pay $4,000 for ONE pound of mushrooms? 🍄💸

White truffles can hit around $4,000/lb at peak season—because they’re rare, wildly hard to harvest, and insanely aromatic. 🌲👨‍🍳

Would you try them once, or is that a hard pass?

A bright red “mushroom” showing up when winter still feels in charge? 🔴🍄

The Scarlet Elf Cup can fruit in late-winter/early-spring—popping off on rotting wood like tiny forest goblets. (Look, don’t snack: sources disagree on edibility.)
