While I always set up my combat guns for the role I’m going into, I’m also a firm believer that your r***e and equipment should be configured around a soldier’s “most dangerous” scenario or COA.
In most cases, that means a close-proximity contact in jungle or urban environments.
That’s why 99% of the time I’ll choose an Aimpoint T2 with a flip-to-side 3x magnifier. It gives me the speed and simplicity of a red dot at close range, while still providing useful magnification when required.
The limitation is that once targets move beyond the r***e’s MPBR, you start needing to account for trajectory by holding over.
This is where the Alpha TARAC comes into its own.
Flick the TARAC into position in front of the T2 and it optically shifts the point of aim, allowing the shooter to continue using the normal red-dot aiming point while compensating for additional bullet drop at extended ranges.
No dialing turrets. No changing holds. No complicated reticle.
Another advantage is its versatility. The TARAC is designed to work with nearly all common carbine optics, including red dots, magnifiers and LPVOs, making it a capability that can be added without completely changing your existing sighting system.
For me, that is the appeal of the TARAC. Configure for your most dangerous fight, but retain the ability to reach further when the situation demands it.
