I Choose To Win

I Choose To Win Women who are boldly, bravely and brilliantly unleashing their God-given gifts to impact the world. In life, we win. Welcome to 'I Choose To Win!"

Our mission is to strengthen the mental wellbeing, resilience and economic position of BIPOC women and girls in the Philly area. What if a generation of women were challenged to believe in God with renewed vigor and promise? What if this generation of women believed what God – and not society – said about them? What if they looked into the mirror and were reminded of God’s love and purpose? What i

f they peered into their souls only to find images of light, courage, boldness and salt? What if they recognized themselves as children of God perfectly designed and properly equipped to live the life God has purposed for them? What if we have a group of women who refuse to accept ‘what is’ as the end, instead they repurposed the lessons learned from trials and turned them into stepping-stones for their promising future? What if young women determine in their hearts that they choose to win in this life?

‘What if’ has become what is!

PARTNERSHIP EXPANDS THE POSSIBLE. 💜

Sometimes, the most powerful thing we can give a young person is a glimpse of what’s possible.

Michelle and Talmadge, who were med school students attending Drexel University school of Medicine, collaborated with I Choose To Win through our Connections program to offer interested youth of diverse backgrounds, access and exposure to the medicine field. This showed up in the classroom, and on a field trip.

We’re grateful that they invited Drexel’s school of medicine’s programming (and the Aspiring Physicians Executives network) to help our participants to see themselves in the medical field.

Michelle and Talmadge didn’t just tell students about medicine—they opened the door to experience it.
From serving on panels and sharing their journeys as medical students, to facilitating an experiential orthopedic workshop, our students got to explore what it takes to care for the human body and pursue a career in medicine.

Michelle and Talmadge also helped create opportunities for youth to tour Drexel’s Gross Anatomy Lab for a comprehensive and engaging half day onsite. Then, they invited us to partner with Jessica to participate in the medical research symposium as judges, and experience the inspiration of a white coat ceremony. 🥼

And now, two of those medical students we once celebrated have officially become Dr. Michelle and Dr. Jessica! 👏🏾🩺💜

What a beautiful reminder that sometimes the best way to help someone envision their future is to let them see it up close.

Thank you all for opening doors, sharing your journeys, and helping our young people imagine “maybe I can” becoming “yes, I can.”

What opportunity helped you see yourself differently? Share it with us. 👇🏾

Some partnerships begin with a simple invitation: “Come be part of this.”

For several years, Sheri Jones has been that kind of partner to I Choose To Win—intentionally creating opportunities for us to show up in spaces where women needed encouragement, affirmation, and hope.

Through her invitations, we brought our Empowerment Station to events supporting women who are breast cancer survivors, creating space to cultivate hope, shift narratives, and encourage women as they navigated their recovery and faith journeys.

Over the years, Sheri invited I Choose To Win to share at a Breast Cancer Awareness event, giving us another opportunity to remind women that what they've experienced is part of their story—not the end of it.

That is the power of partnership.
Someone sees what you carry and creates space for you to pour it out. 💜

Sheri, thank you for being an ambassador for the mission, for making room for our voice, and for believing that women deserve spaces to be edified, empowered, and equipped—even in the middle of their healing.

As we reflect on our legacy, we’re reminded:

Sometimes changing a life starts with simply making or accepting the invitation.

Who has invited you into a space where your presence or their support made a difference? Tag them. 🌸

For 11 years, I Choose To Win has believed that we go further together. Our partners opened doors, created opportunities, shared their platforms, connected us to communities, and—most importantly—believed in what was possible for women and girls.

Today, we’re shining a light on Dr. Angela D. Crawford, whose commitment to uplifting young women created one of those meaningful moments.

In 2024 and 2025, Melonie joined the Queen Empowerment Tea Social at Martin Luther King High School, pouring into young women about thoughtful choices, resilience, self-love, boundaries, and the power they hold to shape their futures.

Dr. Crawford later shared: “The impact of her message was deeply felt, leaving the students with a renewed sense of responsibility and belief in their own potential.”

And perhaps most beautifully, she called the gathering a “legacy moment.”

We couldn’t agree more. 💜

To Dr. Crawford and every partner who opened a door, made a connection, shared wisdom, or created space for our mission—thank you.

Stay tuned as we spotlight more women who chose partnership with I Choose to Win on our mission to edify, equip, and empower women and girls to become leaders.

Some of the most meaningful parts of our journey were the relationships that reminded us we were never doing this work alone.

We’re grateful for leaders like Folasshade Dunbar and the Black Nonprofit Chief Executives of Philadelphia (BNCEP) — a community built around connection, leadership, collective strength, and the belief that when we invest in leaders, we strengthen the communities they serve.

Our work may have taken different forms, but the heart was familiar: create space. Share resources. Pour into people. Strengthen one another. Keep going.

That is legacy.

💜 Thank you, BNCEP, for being part of the I Choose To Win story—and for continuing to build spaces where leaders can grow, connect, and lead with purpose.

What community has helped you become a better leader? Tag them. Give them their flowers. 🌸

💜 THANK YOU! 💜

Last night, we gathered one more time—and what a beautiful way to honor 11 years of I Choose To Win.

To everyone who joined us virtually, shared a memory, reflected with us, laughed with us, celebrated with us, and helped us close this chapter with love—THANK YOU!

The legacy of I Choose To Win was never meant to live in an organization, a logo, or a program.

It was always meant to live in YOU.

In the woman who found her voice.
In the girl who dared to dream bigger.
In the leader who decided to step forward.
In the mentor who chose to pour back.
In the advocate who said, “There has to be more.”
And now, the next chapter is yours to live out.

Carry the vision. Use your voice. Make bold choices. Serve well. Create possibility.

And, in life… choose to win!

The Ones Who Believed Out Loud 📣

Every movement needs people willing to speak up, spread the word, open a door, make an introduction, and tell someone, “You need to know about this.”

As of 2025, our community advocates helped I Choose To Win reach 9,072 women and girls since 2015 -- Winners whom we may never have reached alone. We are so grateful for you all!

Who needs you to use your voice this week?

Your advocacy can be someone's introduction to possibility.

Sometimes, the most powerful impact is simply speaking life into someone and reminding them that their voice matters.

Jordan Harmon's reflection reminds us that I Choose To Win wasn't just a program, event, or organization—it was a space where people could see purpose in action and witness lives being touched.

From a summer camp conversation to a lasting connection to the mission, Jordan's story is a beautiful reminder that we may never fully know how far our words, presence, and example will travel.

As we continue celebrating 11 years of legacy, we want to hear from you.

💜 What did I Choose To Win mean to you? What moment, lesson, relationship, or experience will you carry with you?

Hope Grows When We Choose to Serve. 🌱💜

What began as a $10,000 prize pool for Empowered Uth: Cultiv8 Hope grew into $12,000 in awards for Philadelphia-area youth ages 13–18 who used storytelling to explore one powerful question:

What does HOPE mean to you?

Through spoken word, music, visual art, and multimedia storytelling, young people shared their voices, visions, and lived experiences—and a community of volunteers, educators, judges, partners, caregivers, and supporters chose to show up and help create space for those stories to be heard and celebrated.

That’s what happens when people choose to serve.

A commitment becomes a contribution.
A contribution becomes an opportunity.
An opportunity becomes hope.
And sometimes, hope grows beyond what we first imagined. 🌱

As we look back, we’re especially grateful to every volunteer who gave their time, talent, energy, and encouragement to help Cultiv8 Hope come to life.
You helped us cultivate more than a program. You helped cultivate possibility.

As part of our legacy, we invite you to reflect:

Where can you show up and help cultivate hope for someone else?

Because sometimes, choosing to serve is how we help someone else choose to win. 💜

WISDOM WEDNESDAY: Show Up. Serve Well. 🤲🏾

We learned that impact doesn't always require a title, a spotlight, or a seat at the table. Sometimes, it simply requires someone willing to show up and help.

From workshops and retreats to our Annual Bold, Brave & Brilliant Awards and Fundraising Gala, volunteers were woven into so many of the moments that brought the I Choose To Win experience to life. They gave their time, energy, talents, and heart—and reminded us that generosity of time can become generosity of impact.

What has volunteering—or witnessing someone serve—taught you about showing up?

Share your wisdom with us. 👇🏾
