Standards determine culture long before strategy determines results. As the year progresses, fatigue can set in, priorities compete, and small exceptions begin to feel justified. September is often where leadership resolve is tested, not by major failures, but by subtle compromises.

This month’s focus is standards. What is allowed becomes normal. What is ignored becomes accepted. Leadership responsibility includes protecting standards consistently, even when enforcement feels inconvenient or uncomfortable.

Culture does not rise to intention. It settles at the level of leadership standards.

RESET. RECHARGE. RETURN. 🎣
Leadership isn’t about being “on” 24/7.
Sometimes the best thing you can do for your leadership is step away, reset, and do something you genuinely enjoy.
For me, that means getting outside, spending time on the water, fishing, laughing, and simply enjoying the moment. And when the fish are biting like this…it makes the reset even better! 🎣
A balanced life creates space to think clearly, reconnect with what matters, and return with renewed energy.

Using my ACC Methodology:
Acknowledge when you need to recharge.
Challenge the belief that you always must be working.
Change your routine and intentionally make room for the things that bring you joy.
You cannot lead at your best if you never give yourself an opportunity to reset.
Leadership requires discipline—but a balanced life requires intention.
What do you do to reset?

High performance isn’t just about mindset, it’s about recovery, clarity, and discipline. People often ask what I use to maintain focus and energy while leading, speaking, and coaching. I believe in testing before recommending, and this has become part of my personal routine.

Vision inspires people to start, but discipline determines whether anything is finished. Midyear is where leadership intent is tested. Early momentum has faded, enthusiasm has leveled off, and results are now determined less by excitement and more by consistency. This is the season where discipline, not vision, carries leadership forward.

This month’s focus is discipline. Discipline is not restrictive; it is stabilizing. It bridges the gap between what we say we want to achieve and what actually gets done. When discipline is absent, vision becomes conversation. When discipline is present, results compound. Leadership requires disciplined behavior long after motivation fades.

Homeownership is a cornerstone of stability, wealth‑building, and generational opportunity, but for many minority communities and military Veterans, it can feel out of reach. Dr. Nichols has lived this reality, and as a Trinity Habitat board member, he is dedicated to expanding access and removing barriers so more families can achieve their first home. 🏡

There is something deeply rewarding about watching individuals discover a new vision for their lives. As a leadership coach and mentor, my greatest joy is not simply helping someone complete a program, it is witnessing the transformation that occurs when they begin to see themselves differently, think differently, and intentionally pursue a greater future.
Today, I celebrate the graduation of two remarkable women, Ashley Spriggs and Krysten Griggs. Your commitment to personal growth, self-reflection, and intentional action has been inspiring to witness. You embraced the process, challenged limiting beliefs, and invested in becoming the best version of yourselves.
Thank you both for trusting Nichols Leadership with your development journey. The real success is not the completion of a program, it is the new vision you now have for your personal and professional lives, the confidence to pursue your goals, and the positive impact you will have on those around you.
As I often say, growth begins when we acknowledge where we are, challenge what is holding us back, and change our actions to create a better future. You have done exactly that.
Congratulations, Ashley and Krysten. This is not the end of your journey—it is the beginning of an exciting new chapter. I am honored to have been part of your transformation and look forward to
celebrating your continued success.

"The greatest reward in leadership is not what we achieve ourselves, but what we help others become."
