Question of the day: If I could go back and talk to 30-year-old Patrice, what would I tell her?
Patrice, you are beautiful just as you are. You don’t need weight-loss surgery to become worthy or confident. If your goal is to become healthier or slimmer, the honest truth is that it’s going to require changing your eating habits, exercising, and staying disciplined. I know that’s probably not what you wanted to hear, but it’s the truth.
The older I get, the more I realize that everything worth having requires discipline.
Going back to school required discipline. There were days I didn’t feel like studying, but I kept showing up.
Starting a new job is hard at first. You don’t know everything, but you keep going because you know the paycheck is worth it.
Raising children is rewarding, but it’s also hard work. Those middle-of-the-night feedings, the sleepless nights, and the sacrifices are all part of the journey.
Starting your own business is no different. There are days you work for hours, send emails, create new materials, invest in yourself, and hear nothing back. No clients. No paycheck that week. Sometimes not even that month. There may even be seasons where you wonder if it’s all worth it.
But here’s what I’ve learned…
Success doesn’t come from everything being easy. It comes from showing up, even when it’s hard. It comes from consistency, dedication, and discipline.
If you don’t like the way you look, don’t quit. Start walking. Start exercising. Start making healthier choices. One decision at a time.
Most importantly, change the way you think about yourself. Your mind has to change before your life will.
Today, at 39, that’s exactly what I would tell 30-year-old Patrice.
Because the greatest transformation wasn’t my body—it was my mindset.
