What a privilege to see and honor Opal Lee as she accepted the Hospitality Award at Visit Fort Worth’s Annual Meeting. Thank you to Visit Fort Worth for putting on a wonderful (and safe!) event for the community and to BOKA Powell for having us at your table.

Last year, Civil rights leader Opal Lee collected 1.5 million signatures on a petition to create a national holiday for Juneteenth, the day the Civil War-era Emancipation Proclamation was announced in Texas.

Mackenzie Eason was honored to conduct the search for the City of Fort Worth’s newest Director of Planning & Data Analytics.

Often in executive search, we joke how our clients want a “unicorn candidate” that has the perfect combination of experiences and skills to step into a very niche job. Well, we truly found a unicorn in Mark McAvoy. His unique blend of long-term planning, capital improvement programs, city management and operations, budget, and data analytics backgrounds are exactly what we were looking for in this position.

Mark will lead the newly formed Planning & Data Analytics Department, which is a first in the municipal arena, to combine planning, budget, and capital programs all around data analytics to better inform future decisions for the City.

Mark McAvoy has been named director of the Planning & Data Analytics Department. He brings a wide variety of experience at a number of Texas municipalities.
