The Fort Worth Botanic Garden came to us in 2022 with a vision for their Family Garden and a real question about whether the moment was right to pursue it. We started with a feasibility study, moved into campaign management and worked alongside their team through a phased campaign from start to finish.

Sara Richardson, CFRE, FWBG’s VP of Advancement, put it better than we could.

Congratulations to the entire Fort Worth Botanic Garden team. It was a privilege to be part of it.

Over the last several years, arts and culture organizations have navigated a dramatically shifting fundraising environment.

Audience demographics are changing, corporate sponsorship patterns continue to evolve and the case for public investment in arts and culture must be made more explicitly than ever before. Donors who may have given out of habit or affinity are being asked, in some cases for the first time, to give out of conviction.

That’s actually an opportunity, even if it doesn’t always feel like one. The organizations we’ve seen respond well to this shift are more specific about impact. They intentionally speak to impact, while educating their boards and volunteers about what the new fundraising environment requires.

If you’re looking for help navigating this shifting landscape, let’s start a conversation.

One of the more common misconceptions we run into around major gift work is that it’s all about the ask.

Organizations spend a lot of energy preparing for that conversation. But what about everything that has to happen before it?

The donors who give at a significant level almost always do so because they’ve had enough contact, over enough time, with the organization - and their first gift is not their biggest. The bigger gift feels like a natural next step. That kind of relationship doesn’t happen by accident, nor does it happen quickly. It requires intentional stewardship, genuine curiosity about what the donor cares about and a willingness to have conversations that aren’t about money at all.

When we work with organizations on major gift planning, that’s usually where we start. We look into their donor relationships to understand how to make the right asks.

Most of us are proud to be alumni of our schools. We may wear a branded sweatshirt or fly a flag in our yard.

Alumni giving, however, can be more difficult. The nostalgia is real, the loyalty is genuine, but neither automatically translates into a major financial gift.

Instead, what tends to move people is a clear sense of what their gift can provide for the next generation of students.

If you’re interested in creating that specific story together, let’s connect.

Her experience has led Amy to shape education programs that both expand access to and support the arts. At M. Gale, she’s honed her ability in campaign management.

“Outsidesy, but not outdoorsy,” Amy would prefer to end a great trail day with a good meal over climbing into a sleeping bag and tent.
