The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has confirmed a second detection of New World screwworm (NWS) in a one-month-old calf in Zavala County, Texas, approximately 5.6 miles away from the first confirmed detection.

While we continue to wait for emergency use approval for Ivermectin use as a feed through additive to be used as a science based and effective preventative against New World Screwworm for our wildlife and livestock, please continue following guidance from our state agencies and federal partners.

A feed supplier received a request from what appeared to be a legitimate customer. The email address matched the company’s name. The website checked out. The communication was consistent and professional. There were no obvious red flags.
