I LEARNED TO BE STRONG TOO EARLY

I think a lot of people see me now and assume I’ve always been strong.
But the truth is… I learned to be strong because I had no choice.
Growing up in Vietnam, there was no space for emotions.

You survive. You adapt. You move forward.
When I came to the U.S. with almost nothing… that mindset stayed with me.

Work harder.
Figure it out.
Don’t complain.

And that worked… until I became a business owner.
Because no one tells you this:
At some point… being strong becomes being alone.
There are decisions you carry that no one else can hold with you.

I can’t tell my husband.
He loves me. He supports me.
But he doesn’t own a business.
He doesn’t understand what it feels like to carry payroll…
to make decisions that affect other families.

And I can’t tell my team.
They look at me for stability.
For answers.
I can’t let them feel my uncertainty… even when I feel it.
So I stay quiet.
And that silence…
it started to feel heavier than the business itself.

What changed my life wasn’t more strategy.
It was finding a room where:
Every person in that room is also a business owner.
They understand without explanation.

And more importantly…
It’s confidential.
I could finally speak without filtering.
Without protecting anyone.
Without pretending I had it all together.

That room became sacred to me.
Because for the first time…
I didn’t have to be strong alone.

I've been a member of OV (Overseas Vietnamese) for a little over a year now. During that time, I've had the opportunity to meet talented Vietnamese professionals and entrepreneurs from around the world.

Yesterday, OV Dallas made a small change that led to a big result.

For the first time, we opened our meetup to non-members.

Nine people showed up: 4 OV members and 5 guests.

What surprised me most?

Five of the nine attendees were entrepreneurs.

That's a powerful sign of how the Vietnamese American community is evolving. We are no longer just doctors, engineers, accountants, and corporate professionals. More and more Vietnamese professionals are becoming founders, business owners, investors, and job creators.

As I looked around the table, I saw people helping each other find jobs, discussing business ideas, sharing resources, making introductions, and building friendships.

Twenty-four years ago when I arrived in the U.S., I didn't have access to a community like this.

I didn't have a network of Vietnamese professionals and entrepreneurs who were willing to open doors, share lessons learned, and help each other succeed.

That's why OV matters.

We're building a community where students can find mentors, professionals can expand their network, entrepreneurs can find collaborators, and everyone can grow together.

If you're a Vietnamese student, professional, entrepreneur, or aspiring leader in DFW, we'd love to meet you.

This is just the beginning.

The future of our community will not be built by one person. It will be built by all of us.

Who's joining us at the next OV Dallas event?

Success Means Nothing Without Health

Hey y’all. I just got my latest Function Health results back and honestly… this journey feels personal.

Most people know me as the entrepreneur, professor, business coach, self-made millionaire, award winner, community leader…

But behind all of that, my health was quietly falling apart.

In my 20s, I was trying to survive.
In my 30s, I was busy raising kids, building a career, paying off debts, and taking care of everyone else.

Like many immigrant women, I kept telling myself:
“I’ll focus on my health later.”

Then in my early 40s, I got diagnosed with prediabetes, osteopenia, and degenerative disc disease.

That was my wake-up call.

Because I realized something nobody really talks about:
you don’t have to be dying to feel miserable.

You can look successful on paper and still feel exhausted, inflamed, stressed, and disconnected from your own body.

So over the past few years, I started investing in my health the same way I invested in my business:
more intention
more discipline
more consistency

Not to become some extreme biohacker.
I just want to feel strong, healthy, and present for the people I love.

Today, my biological age is almost 17 years younger than my real age.

And honestly?
That means more to me now than another award or financial milestone ever could.

I know many of you are still in your 20s or 30s, and wellness may not feel important yet. Believe me, I understand.

But if there’s one thing I’ve learned:
the earlier you invest in your health, the greater the return later in life.

These days, my biggest goal is simple — stay healthy enough to travel the world, enjoy life, and hopefully meet many of you along the way.

From Texas to San Francisco to Sydney: Why OV Became One of My Favorite Vietnamese Communities Worldwide

I didn’t expect joining OV (Overseas Vietnamese) would lead to friendships and connections across the world…

But over the past year, I’ve met some of the most driven, kind, and globally-minded Vietnamese people — from my own backyard in Texas… to San Francisco… all the way to Sydney, Australia.

Entrepreneurs.
Tech professionals.
Creatives.
Investors.
Consultants.
Founders.
Leaders.

People building incredible lives while still staying connected to their Vietnamese identity and roots.

What surprised me most?
The community feels genuine.

Not transactional.
Not fake networking.
Not people trying to impress each other.

Just smart, ambitious Overseas Vietnamese helping each other grow, connect, and belong.

In a world where so many people feel isolated, finding a global Vietnamese community like this honestly feels rare.

That’s why we’re opening up our next OV Dallas meetup to non-members so more people can experience it for themselves.
