NKY Swarm Removal

I knew we were going to be busy this weekend, so I squeezed in a quick hive inspection of three hives yesterday. I checked the two hives that were swarms from Southgate and Cincinnati. Even though I didn’t physically see the queens, there was proof that the queen had been at work. The Cincy hive was full of capped brood.
I checked my one hive at home that was my own swarm that moved into a swarm trap that was set up. I found the queen and she is also laying eggs.

This sweet swarm in Ludlow this morning decided it wasn’t sticking around to wait for me to get my smoker lit. They literally swarmed right in front of me and left. That was a first.

Bees are great weather predictors

For centuries, beekeepers and farmers looked to the bees for clues about the weather. When the skies are fair and the air is calm, the bees head out in force — dancing through the sunshine and hard at work. 🌼☀️

Crestview Hills was our swarm location today. It was a smaller swarm,but as long as the queen is in the box that’s what matters

A busy day it was for me. With a swarm removal in the middle of the day. This swarm was in downtown Cincinnati on a security camera. They were City Bees this morning and Country bees by the afternoon. Their new neighbors are the Southgate swarm we got last Saturday.

Saturdays swarm relocated to Boone County. Orientation flights started immediately.

We relocated the Southgate bees to my moms farm in Boone County. We had it sealed up and planned to open today, but the bees had other ideas. They wanted to out of that new hive and began orientation flights immediately. adjusting to their new location.

Southgate, Ky is where we got this nice size swarm from this evening.

This hive contains the latest swarm caught in Wallace Woods recently. Without even looking inside the hive, it appears that the bees are doing an orientation flight. Basically learning their location for when they start bringing back pollen to their new location. That also shows that they have accepted their new location as home.
