More prairies getting restored one load at a time.

Management Monday:
Sericea lespedeza – an exotic species from Asia – invaded this prairie after eastern red cedar trees were removed and fire was re-introduced. Restoration practices that promote development of the prairie plant community also promote the spread of sericea lespedeza. In this scenario, the frequency at which sericea lespedeza occurs in the plant community is rapidly increasing. Consequently, triclopyr herbicide was recently applied to reduce the occurrence of sericea lespedeza and increase the occurrence of native species. To minimize collateral damage, a hand crew was used to apply the herbicide.

It's this little flower's 7th birthday!
From her first skid steer ride to her first prescribed burn, she's been right here with us through every step of Land Revival.

"We've had more deer and turkeys not just be seen, but actually stay on the place than we've ever had!"

We worked on this property back in December 2024. We've been back on it the last few weeks doing more cedar logging and mulching.
Even though we're back because we weren't "finished," the right practices were already producing the "right" results.

Stewardship-driven methods aren't linear. They're not typical. And they certainly don't always make sense.
Being trusted with property management means more to us than just getting another job. It's about doing something with lasting impacts.

Happy Saturday!
And welcome and thank you to our new followers!

We're Hunter & Jessica Vick. We bought our dream farm back in 2022 with the intentions of raising kids and cattle and growing vegetables to support (at the time) our little family.
In summer of 2023, we had two life changing moments happen: a machine fire with our business Land Revival, LLC and the discovery we were having twins.
The sale of our cows helped us make it through for a little while, but it also gave us the opportunity to carefully evaluate what we wanted our little farm to do.
We decided to transition from bovine to board feet and use our farm to mill the Eastern Red Cedars we remove with our land management business to further support restoration of the Black Belt Prairie. Every board and post sold from us have been logged by us and milled by us all to help restore a critically imperiled ecosystem in Alabama and Mississippi.
Getting our farm felt like a full-circle moment at first, but it was really just the arc in our story. Today, we are "Milling with a Mission" to restore the Black Belt Prairie and offer high-quality cedar lumber.
