Want to save an OUTRAGEOUS sum of money? Learn about GFCI Outlets.

OK, that was a bit of clickbait....;-) GFCI's are not the most exciting topic but we ALL have them in our homes (or we should have them anywhere electricity is near water like a kitchen or bathroom).

- Everything in the office stopped working (PC/Laptop/lights, router)?
- Pool cover pump stopped working (and water was knee deep)
- Driveway gate wouldn't open
- Garage door wouldn't open
- Refrigerator in garage was powered down for a week (yuck!)

Clients have called with all of the above...and were ready to call an electrician to come and fix. Turned out to be a "tripped" GFCI - that the appliance or item was on the circuit (after) the GFCI.

Save yourself the cost of a service call and/or the headache of trying to figure out why your router stopped working just when you wanted to stream something. Look for, check and reset your GFCI if tripped. You may have had a power surge or were using more electricity then the circuit was meant to accommodate. It the GFCI trips again...then call a professional.

We look after houses when people are away and we solve a lot of home service problems.

Occam's razor - the simplest explanation is usually the right one!

Did You Know?

Which tape measure you use can make a real difference in a DIY project.

What do I mean?

Have you ever measured and then went to cut...and you wisely decided to measure again just before cutting (measure twice, cut once). Hmm.....The measurement was a little different so you adjusted. You then make the cut with your new, expensive saw and go to install.......however, the board, shelf, PVC pipe etc. was too short or too long.

How did this happen? You were extra careful---you even measured twice before you made the cut.

I bet that you used two different measuring tapes, rulers and they are 1/8 , 1/16 inch or a few mm different.

TIP - use the same measuring device ALL the time throughout a project. Or if you prefer, measure twice, cut once then go back and buy more stuff to start again.... 😂

March 2025 marks the beginning of our third annual National Home Watch Month. This month, we will strive to educate the public, homeowner’s insurance companies, and state and local governments about this very important and necessary service for unoccupied homes throughout the US and Canada. The National Home Watch Association is all about growing the footprint of legitimate Home Watch companies by providing risk mitigation to thousands of second homeowners and the billions of dollars of unchecked second homes they represent.

No extreme heat, monsoon, haboob or car failing to start will stop me from watching homes! No worry, plan B is in motion.
