Quite possibly my favorite thing to emerge from COVID-19 weddings is what's being dubbed the "sequel wedding" - I don't think it's getting enough credit, so help me spread the word because honestly, it's the silver lining coronavirus couples need right now.
Simply put, a sequel wedding is that elusive, "bigger celebration when it's safe to do so" - You see, many couples who opted to move forward with an intimate ceremony had to forgo that large celebration we were all planning for - but these couples KNOW there will be grand celebrations in due time, so they will have a second, larger celebration - the sequel wedding.
Why do I love this so much? So many reasons, but here are my top three -
First, it places so much more meaning into the ceremony. Suddenly, couples are faced with less pressure and are more free to speak to each other truly and freely without feeling like they have a grand audience. Think about it - if you're writing vows to your partner, you're going to choose your words carefully. The words you choose to share in front of immediate family and your closest friends will likely be more meaningful and personal than if you had an audience of 200 in attendance.
Second, sequel weddings give room for everything to have equal importance. I've always been a little perplexed by this shift in the industry where couples spend way more time and energy thinking about the celebration after the ceremony. Yes, it's true that your ceremony is only a small part of the day, but it's THE SINGLE REASON everyone comes together. Sequel weddings give a little more space for the couple to focus on the ceremony, and then frees up planning energy after to focus on the party.
Third, and a little less touchy feely - sequel weddings literally are saving the wedding industry right now. By postponing your larger celebration, you keep so many small businesses afloat and alive to see another year.
