General information
Formed in 1985, and reorganized as a freestanding cooperative in 1991, APSC is a buying group owned and operated by independent pharmacies. Each pharmacy becomes a shareholder in APSC by purchasing one share of stock from the company (see below). By purchasing this share of stock, APSC members are entitled to receive dividends paid by the cooperative. A nine member Board of Directors governs APSC. APSC programs and activities are financed through an administrative fee based on the monthly purchases of its shareholders from the APSC prime vendor. The prime vendor for the shareholders pays the administration fee. Shareholders are required to participate in the prime vendor group purchasing program as a condition of membership. The cost of each share of stock is $100. The stock cannot be sold or transferred to any third-party by the shareholder. APSC issues the stock and only APSC can repurchase the stock from the pharmacy.
