International eWaste Day is this Wednesday, Oct 14, and this year's theme is FAST TECH. ⚡🔌

Fast tech is all the little gadgets we buy on impulse and toss just as fast: earbuds, charging cables, USB adapters, LED string lights, and more. They're small, but together they add up to a big eWaste problem, and most of them end up in the trash.

So all week, Monday Oct 12 to Friday Oct 16, we're waiving our recycling fees on fast tech for residents and businesses! 🙌

Williamson County, this is where it all started!

You were our very first county partner for free electronics recycling at local convenience centers in Middle Tennessee, and the model you helped build is now running in Rutherford and Cheatham County too.

Here's how the first half of 2026 stacked up, Q1 (Jan-Mar) → Q2 (Apr-Jun):

🚛 Pickups by our City eWaste team: 32 → 35
📦 Boxes filled by residents: 159 → 147
⚖️ Recycling volume: 95,391 lbs → 88,159 lbs

Q2 came in a little lighter on the scale, and that's actually good news. Residents and attendants have done a great job keeping TVs and non-electronics out of the boxes, so what we collect is cleaner and better sorted. More pickups and cleaner boxes make for a stronger program.

Together, that's 91.8 TONS kept out of our local landfill in just six months. Did Williamson County cross 100 tons in Q3? Stay tuned for the reveal! 👀

P.S while we do not accept TVs for recycling at our convenience center partner locations, we do accept TVs at our Franklin HQ!

Solid Waste Directors and Public Works officers — next week Oct 13-15 at TCAPWA/SWANA in Knoxville, drop by our City eWaste booth for a free cup of specialty pour over coffee, generously provided by Crema Coffee Roasters. The only requirement? A good chat. While it brews, tell us what you do, and ask us anything.

We’ll happily share how counties like Rutherford, Williamson and Cheatham run free eWaste programs with us, how pulling electronics buys back landfill space, and how what your county throws away carries more recoverable value than most people assume.

Meet Erin Westrich from City eWaste!

Erin runs our Operations team from the inside: the container service set up at partner counties' convenience centers, the 70,000 to 100,000 pounds of material moving through our Franklin facility, and the volume and performance reporting our county partners rely on. When Rutherford, Williamson, or Cheatham County has a question about how their program runs, Erin is the one who answers it.

Next week, Erin takes the stage at the TCAPWA/SWANA Annual Conference in Knoxville (Oct 13-15) with a session built for people who run Tennessee's solid waste programs: "Landfill Capacity, Data Risk, & the Case for a County eWaste Program".

Erin will be happy to share what she's learned building Tennessee's county programs from the operator's seat, and what a free program could look like in your community.

Our Founder and CEO, Matthew Rogers, is in Nashville this week for the imagineIF conference, two days focused on AI, energy and bitcoin. All three industries depend on the same thing: materials.

The copper, aluminum and precious metals inside everyday electronics are the feedstock for the next generation of technology. Between 70,000 and 100,000 pounds of eWaste come through our doors each month, and our job is to keep those materials in use and out of the local landfill here in Middle Tennessee.

Matthew is looking forward to bringing that perspective into the room and connecting with the people building what's next!

As we start to review our collection volumes for the third quarter of the year, let's take a look back at what our residents have accomplished so far.

Williamson County residents, from Jan - June this year, you recycled 91.8 TONS across 5 free and secure convenience center drop-off stations.

That's 183,550 lbs of electronic waste (imagine the weight of 184 Tennessee Walking Horses 🐴) that will not end up in our landfill, all thanks to YOU!

Every county should be able to offer its residents free, secure electronics recycling close to home, and it shouldn't cost taxpayers a thing.

As of October 1st, Cheatham County residents now have two new free, secure places to drop off their end-of-life electronics: the convenience centers on Sam's Creek Road in Pegram and Thompson Road in Ashland City.

Cheatham County is a cornerstone to our long-term vision. They had the foresight to bring these services to a smaller, rural county, where residents don't always have the same sustainability options.

We're grateful to Mike Russell and the Cheatham County team for moving so quickly to make this happen for their community!

The program, in partnership with City eWaste, gives more than 40,000 residents a place to drop off end-of-life electronics.

Today Cheatham County becomes the third Tennessee county to partner with City eWaste.

Two new free drop-off stations open for residents, and the county pays nothing for it. No hauling fees, no processing fees, no contract line item. We supply the equipment, the signage, the pickups and the reporting; residents get a place to take the old TV that has been in the garage since 2019.

That is the model we built with Williamson County and Rutherford County, and those two counties diverted nearly 200 tons of electronics from the landfill in the first six months of 2026. Cheatham is the next one on the map.

Matthew, our founder and CEO, recorded an episode of the Ecopreneur’s Club this week with Julia Polk, founder of Curio and Wyzer.

Julia's premise is that the world runs on headlines and the interesting work is three or four questions deeper. She built Wyzer, an AI research engine that has read and scored about 45,000 articles on energy, policy, climate and data-center infrastructure since late 2025, so she can ask better questions than the trades do. Then she took those questions to the thing every Tennessee town is about to vote on: a data center.

Her Compounding Risk thesis is what we want to get into. The physical: land, water, power, pollution, and at the end of the facility's life, electronic waste. The financial: builds measured in billions, private credit that can land in retirement plans, tax credits that can handicap a host community for twenty years.
