Why should you define your brand?
Consider this: your brand image is based upon others’ perceptions of you. Do you really want to leave that to chance?
Unfortunately many resumes, LinkedIn profiles, and elevator speeches are nondescript or confusing (and some are downright bad). All of which can reflect badly on the person profiled.
By defining your personal brand, you make it easier for employers to understand how you might fit in at their company. And it makes it easier for your network to know where they might steer you.
Don’t put the burden on your network, friends, or family to figure out where you could fit in at their contacts’ companies. They can’t clearly convey your value if you can’t.
If you’re looking for a job, or want to change your career path, you need to define and express yourself in a compelling and differentiated way. You need to define your brand.
