A well-designed HVAC system is about much more than just heating and cooling, it’s about how your home feels to live in every day.

One of the most common comfort issues in homes comes from poor vent placement and unbalanced airflow. Even with high-end equipment, improper layout can create rooms that are consistently too hot, too cold, or difficult to regulate.

During construction, it’s important to think through how airflow will function once furniture and daily living are in place. If you can, use an HVAC design company to assist with this.

Here are a few things worth paying attention to:

• Are supply vents positioned where airflow can circulate effectively?
• Will furniture, rugs, or cabinetry block vents or returns?
• Are larger rooms receiving enough airflow for the square footage and ceiling volume?

Pro Tip Tuesday: Insulation Isn’t Just a “Check the Box” item!

Insulation is one of the most overlooked parts of the building process that has a direct impact on how your home feels and performs every single day.

Poor installation can lead to uneven temperatures, higher energy bills, and rooms that never quite feel comfortable, no matter how good your HVAC system is.

When insulation is being installed, here’s what to pay attention to...

• Full, consistent coverage – No gaps, voids, or missed areas
• No compression – Insulation that’s packed too tightly loses effectiveness
• Clean edges around wiring and framing – Sloppy cuts leave weak points
• Proper install behind pipes and in corners – Common areas that get missed
• Correct material for the application – Batt, blown-in, or spray foam each have specific uses

One of the most common things homeowners wish they spent more time on during construction? Their electrical plan!
Most people focus on finishes and fixtures, which is great, but planning outlets, switches, speakers, smart home automation and lighting placement is equally as important.
When reviewing your electrical plan, walk through each room as if you were living there.
Ask yourself, where do I want…
Lamps, TV’s, furniture, charging stations, kitchen outlets, under cabinet lighting, dimmers, holiday lighting on the exterior,etc.
It’s much easier (and far less expensive) to make these decisions before drywall goes up than after you move in.
A well thought out electrical plan isn’t just about convenience, it improves functionality, comfort, and how your home lives long term.
