Sometimes we need to fix someone else's restoration. This one was sloppy with red media that was too bright and poorly applied as well as a bright white fill. Couldn't be happier with the final result.

Pro tip: plastic wrap over your methyl cellulose makes cleaning old glue off book spines go so much faster. Why did i just figure this out after about 20 years of spine cleaning? Got the idea from a woman who uses this method to clean ovens on Instagram. Passing it along in case you too didn’t know.

This photo album from The National Museum of African Art was a real engineering challenge. It is incredibly heavy with pages made of thick board. It was originally an adhesive structure, which failed because it could not support the weight. I chose to sew it through a stiff spine piece of handmade western case paper. Then lined with more western handmade paper. I also made an alternative box that opens flat to be lighter and easier for handling than a clamshell. It was a real workout picking this one up.
