We denounce the action taken yesterday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas to vacate the community integration mandate from the 2024 Section 504 rule: Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Disability in Programs or Activities Receiving Federal Financial Assistance.

Although this represents yet another setback, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Olmstead Decision remain the law of the land and we will continue our fight to uphold the protections afforded by each.

Only a few states remained signed on to this suit in the end (Texas, Florida, Alaska, Louisiana, and Montana) when the case started out with 17 states signed on, as the result of significant advocacy from the disability community around the nation and a small win amid the chaos. 💙 ABLE Account or Special Needs Trust — what’s the difference?

Both can be important tools for helping protect the financial future of a person with a disability, but they work in different ways.

Our latest fact sheet breaks down:
✅ Who can have each one
✅ Contribution limits
✅ How they may affect benefits
✅ What the money can be used for
✅ Why some families may choose to use both

Take a look and save this information for future planning!

Today, RISE Services joins our nation in solemn remembrance of September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years later, we remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the extraordinary courage of the first responders, service members, veterans, healthcare professionals, and everyday Americans who answered tragedy with service and compassion.

We also remember the unity that followed—a reminder of the strength we find in standing together and caring for one another.

Today, across RISE Services, we pause to honor the lives, the heroes, the families, and the sacrifices that must never be forgotten.

🇺🇸 We remember. We honor. We stand together.

🎉 Turning 18 is a big milestone, and it comes with some important changes!

In Virginia, turning 18 means becoming a legal adult and taking responsibility for decisions related to education, healthcare, finances, and more. For some individuals with disabilities, additional support may be needed along the way.

Join PEATC and Virginia Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired (DBVI) for Turning 18 in Virginia: What Individuals with Disabilities Need to Consider to learn about important things to think about as your loved one approaches adulthood.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a complex law with multiple provisions. One of these provisions focuses on whether an individual can sue if they believe discrimination based on disability is about to occur. You can get more information on this topic here:
