We're so proud of Aliya Jones in the LF Class of 2026! Learn more about Aliya on her highlight post here :)

Meet Aliya Jones LF ‘26, Functional Analyst at Flatter, Inc. Aliya defines success as persistence through obstacles. She said many can begin a new chapter, but tend to give up once the challenges occur. You can’t reach your goals without enduring challenges and viewing them as an opportunity for growth vs. a stopping point.

She loves to vacation in Houston and in Cancun. Cheesecake is a favorite dessert and Chipotle or Surf & Turf are favorite meals. She tells us she excelled in every subject in school … except math!
Aliya is deeply passionate about parenthood and bonding with her son whether its playing soccer, making smores, or cuddling over a movie.

Her best advice received is “your outlook on life will determine your happiness.” She says “if you’ve prayed about it – don’t worry about it.” She hopes to be remembered as a person everyone could always depend on and someone who truly cared about them. We are delighted to be connected to Aliya through her experience as a Leadership Fredericksburg 2026 Fellow!

National Defense University was pleased to host Japan’s Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chief of Staff, Warrant Officer Takayuki Saito, during his visit to Fort McNair to observe portions of the Keystone 26-1 course.

During his visit, SEAC Saito met with NDU President Vice Admiral Garvin, attended a Keystone briefing led by one of our Senior Fellow's CSM (Ret) Pat Alston, and continued his engagement at the Pentagon by participating in key discussions and course sessions. His visit supported ongoing efforts to evaluate the potential integration of a Command Senior Enlisted Leader (CSEL) course within the Japan Self-Defense Forces.

This engagement highlights the enduring partnership between the United States and Japan and our shared commitment to strengthening enlisted leadership through joint professional military education and international collaboration. Opportunities like these allow allied forces to exchange perspectives, share best practices, and advance leadership excellence across the joint and combined force.

At Flatter Inc., we are proud to support our nation’s security through this mission-critical work. Our partnership with the Department of War—particularly in support of National Defense University and the Keystone Course—remains one of our most valued engagements.

📣 Our PersonaOpps lead and Enterprise Architect, Lucas Flatter, attended the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Summit New York City last year and came back energized with incredible take-aways. 🌟

Here’s a snapshot of what Lucas learned and how it applies to our work:

🔍 Key learnings

The summit underscored that while new technologies like agentic AI are rapidly evolving, the foundations of security, reliability, and operational excellence remain as important as ever.

The rise of “agentic AI” — AI systems that act autonomously on behalf of users — is no longer just a buzzword. The summit featured frameworks and tools to deploy these agents at scale.

Real-world case studies (e.g., from organizations like Intuit and Thomson Reuters) showed how migrating core workloads to the cloud and embedding AI at the foundation enables faster innovation.

The summit revealed that big investment is happening in the AI space: for example, a major commitment (≈ $100 million) to the Generative AI Innovation Center to accelerate productivity gains and autonomous systems.

💡 How this matters for our PersonaOps team

We’ll be enhancing our persona workflows by evaluating frameworks that allow agentic AI to streamline user-journeys — helping us deliver more proactive, intuitive experiences.

We’ll double-down on cloud architecture and automation: backing our personas with scalable, reliable infrastructure will let us test, iterate and deliver faster.

We’ll keep security and operational excellence front and center, especially as we adopt more advanced AI tools — it’s not enough to adopt AI, we must adopt responsibly.

We’ll leverage insights from the case studies to benchmark and shape best practices, ensuring our work aligns with leading-edge approaches in the industry.

🎬 TLDR: Lucas has brought back not just inspiration, but actionable ideas that will help elevate how we operate as a team and how we deliver value to our stakeholders. Stay tuned for updates as we integrate these learnings into our roadmap!

🌟 Flatter at SHRM 2025: Elevating the Future of Work 🌟

Flatter was proud to attend the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) 2025 Annual Conference back in June, where Teresa Stevenson and Alexandria Turner joined thousands of HR leaders exploring the evolving intersection of people, culture, and technology.

“This learning opportunity reminded me that great HR is about connection with intention — using empathy and strategy to build cultures that truly empower people,” said Teresa Stevenson.
“The conversations around AI and human-centered leadership really stood out. It’s clear that technology can enhance — not replace — the human touch,” shared Alexandria Turner.

💡 Key Takeaways We’re Bringing to Life at Flatter:

Human + AI Synergy: Inspired by emerging focus on tech integration, we’re piloting smarter tools to streamline HR processes while keeping empathy and transparency at the forefront.

Culture of Trust: We’re reinforcing high-trust, inclusive practices through enhanced communication and recognition.

Continuous Learning: HR trends highlighted the power of ongoing growth — we’ve expanded our internal learning resources to continue innovation and improvement within our teams.

Data-Driven Decisions: Flatter is implementing new people analytics to better understand engagement and development needs across our teams.

These insights are already shaping how we collaborate, grow, and support our people — ensuring Flatter continues to be a place where innovation and humanity thrive side by side.

Our HR team had an enriching experience and were able to learn and strategize together in San Diego, CA. This post concludes our conference and learning opportunity reflections for 2025. We look forward to integrating this and all of our continuous learning into a great 2026.
