Electrical panel upgrade or service upgrade? They’re not always the same thing.

A panel upgrade involves replacing your home’s electrical panel, often because it’s outdated, damaged, or running out of space for new circuits.

A service upgrade increases the electrical capacity available to your home, such as going from 100 to 200 amps. This typically involves replacing service equipment and coordinating with the utility.

Planning to add a heat pump, EV charger, or other electrical equipment? Depending on your existing system, you may need a panel upgrade, a service upgrade, both, or neither.

Our MSS Electric team can evaluate your existing equipment and perform a load calculation to help determine what’s needed.

New SPAN smart panel in a Maine stone basement.

The MSS Electric team installed this one as part of a Maine Solar Solutions solar and FranklinWH battery project.

SPAN gives homeowners a closer look at how their home is using energy, down to individual circuits. During an outage, they can also prioritize what they want their battery to keep powering and adjust those priorities through the SPAN app.

There’s a lot more this smart panel can do. We break it down on our blog, linked in the comments.

A few faces behind MSS Electric.

We’re pretty lucky to have a crew that’s good at what they do and still manages to smile when we show up with a camera and interrupt their day.

We had a great evening at the Portland Sea Dogs game last week with some of the crew and their families!

Good company, plenty of ’90s jams, and a few home runs made for a fun night at the ballpark.

This Maine camp originally relied on propane lanterns for lighting.
Our team installed new electrical wiring using Wiremold, allowing us to add modern lighting, switches, and outlets while keeping the beautiful pine walls intact.
