Can proteomics help untangle the overlapping pathologies behind mixed dementia?

A new CLARiTI initiative will use NULISAseq™ Neuro 220 to profile ~21,000 longitudinal plasma samples from 10,000 participants, alongside clinical, imaging, genetic, and neuropathological data.

“We have to disentangle that heterogeneity and see whether we can bring some clarity to it,” says Sterling Johnson of the University of Wisconsin–Madison. By identifying blood protein signatures associated with different neurodegenerative pathologies, the project could help researchers better characterize disease progression and inform future clinical trials.

Just published! The first longitudinal cohort study to evaluate a broad panel of plasma biomarkers in patients receiving anti-amyloid antibody therapy in real-world clinical practice.

Researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis used Alamar's NULISAseq™ CNS 120 Panel to analyze more than 2,300 plasma samples, finding that biomarkers associated with amyloid clearance differed from those associated with cognitive decline in patients receiving lecanemab.

By measuring brain-derived tau alongside more than 100 additional proteins, investigators were able to track pathology and treatment response in a single assay, uncovering biological changes that may be missed when evaluating only a small number of biomarkers.
As anti-amyloid therapies become part of routine care, precision proteomics is opening a new window into researching how patients respond to treatment.
