How should developers approach project design when solar and energy storage are part of the conversation?

What can building-trades skills power? For 18 Bay Area students, solar offered a hands-on answer.

For Manufacturing Week, Nextpower welcomed 18 students from four local high schools to our Silicon Valley headquarters for hands-on solar installation training with the City of Fremont, CA Government and Mission Valley ROP (MVROP). The students are enrolled in MVROP’s Construction Technology program, part of its Building and Construction Trades pathway. They got to connect what they’re learning with the people, tools and practices behind utility-scale solar—and see where those skills could take them.

The opportunity is growing: the U.S. solar industry supports 703,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs, according to the American Clean Power Association.

Because you can’t choose a career you haven’t had the chance to see.

We’re proud to work with the City of Fremont and MVROP to help students explore pathways into the skilled trades and clean energy. AgriPV is gaining ground across Europe. Now the industry needs to turn momentum into a market that can scale.

The opportunity is clear: generate solar power while keeping land in productive agricultural use. But realizing that potential requires better alignment across solar and agriculture, clearer definitions, stronger policy frameworks, and more sharing of what works across markets. That’s the focus of the Global Solar Council’s AgriPV Task Force, chaired by Philipp Kunze, Nextpower Vice President of Business Development and Sales, Europe.

On 14 October, Philipp will bring that global perspective to the Agrivoltaics Industry Forum Europe in Bordeaux, joining the opening session, “Setting the Scene: A 360° View on Agrivoltaics.” He’ll share lessons emerging across markets, what the Task Force is working to address, and why collaboration between the solar and agricultural sectors is critical to responsible AgriPV deployment.
