This is Dorval’s first vineyard planting after acquiring the estate in 2023 — three acres of Petit Verdot, farmed 100% organically and regeneratively.

We’re expecting a light, but beautiful crop this year, and we’re grateful to see these young vines coming into their own. You will also notice a lady bug photographed.

What’s the significance? In conventional systems, broad-spectrum insecticides and harsher chemical inputs can unintentionally reduce not only pests, but also the beneficial insects that naturally keep vineyards in balance.

Organic and regenerative farming focuses on building healthy soils, biodiversity, cover crops, flowering plants, and reduced chemical disruption. This creates food sources, habitat, and shelter for ladybugs and many other beneficial species.

Ladybugs are aggressive predators of soft-bodied pests that damage vines:
• Aphids
• Mealybugs
• Mites
• Leafhopper eggs

Healthy vineyards and pure soils make pure and delicious wines at Dorval!
