So excited to see the newest addition to the Strata Varia portfolio, the Sea Stinger Picpoul, being served as nature intended; outdoors, sun shining, near water, and, most importantly, with local oysters!

Picpoul is an exciting up-and-coming variety in Washington State. French for "lip stinger", Picpoul's signature racy acidity makes it the ideal summer/shellfish wine. With the release of the 2025 Sea Stinger, Strata Varia has become one of a small but growing handful of Washington wineries producing this extraordinary variety!

Strata Varia is on the menu! We are excited to introduce the Sea Stinger Picpoul from Strata Varia. Talk about a perfect oyster wine made with the San Juan islands in mind. With the 2025 white wines and 2024 reds being blended and prepared for bottling, it’s time to share some of the super cool toys that we’ve been playing around with lately! In accordance with the name “Strata Varia” paying reference to varying layers of the Earth, we have been leaning hard into a variety of earthen fermentation vessels. In 2025, we added 3 new vineyards/varieties to our white wine portfolio. The 2025 Les Collines Picpoul and 2025 Corfu Crossing Grenache Blanc were both fermented in 85 gallon clay amphorae. The 2025 Crossfire Roussanne was fermented in a 180 gallon concrete egg. And the 2024 and 2025 Freewater Rocks Syrahs were fermented in both cylindrical and block-shaped concrete tanks. Can’t wait to begin sharing these wines this spring!

Medio Cafe is excited to host local San Juan Island wine makers Kate & Brent of Strata Varia Wine for an evening of wine tasting and live music on Wednesday, September 17th from 7pm-9pm.

Kate and Brent will be serving tasting pours of their wines, we'll be serving up some snacks to pair with the wine, and Salty Sand & String Band will be here performing live music for the evening.

The 2023 Smoke on the Water Syrah was awarded 94 points and Editors' Choice from Wine Enthusiast! As we move into our third harvest working with Syrah from the remarkable Freewater Rocks Vineyard, we are excited to receive some recognition for the considerable care and effort that went into crafting this wine. We also appreciate reviewer Michael Alberty's commitment to playing along with the Deep Purple reference!🤘 🍷

Just a reminder, for purchases made on the stratavariawine.com webstore, we offer shipping to WA, OR, and CA as well as free delivery for residents of San Juan Island! However, we were recently made aware of a glitch on our webstore. The radio buttons that allow customers to choose between shipping and pickup as delivery options had somehow been disabled. Strata Varia's 2023 Lay of the Lamb GSM blend was awarded Double Gold and a 95-point score at the 2025 Pacific Northwest Wine Competition! 168 wineries across Washington, Oregon, and Idaho entered a total of 739 wines this year. We are proud to be placed as one of the eighteen wines scoring 95 or higher!
