Here's the shift: you don't have to say yes or no. You can say what's true. "I really want this too, and it's not in the plan for this trip."
Then move on. No lecture, no guilt.

I was raised mostly by a single mom in a house where money was tight and almost never talked about. Not because she didn't care, but because no one had ever taught her either.

I grew up and did the same thing the hard way. So I got a little obsessed with one question: why is money still so awkward to talk about with our kids?
