Maybe you are still learning too. Maybe you have made mistakes with money or wish you had learned some of these lessons sooner.

That does not make you unqualified. It makes you human.

Your kids do not need a perfect example. They need someone willing to have honest conversations, make thoughtful choices, learn from mistakes, and keep going.

Sometimes the best thing we can give our children is simply a better place to start.

We are working on website updates, and we are a little giddy about how it's coming together. 💛

There's something surreal about watching a thing that's lived in your head for so long slowly become real on a screen. Pages taking shape. Words finally landing right. The look and feel of what's coming, clicking into place piece by piece.

I'm not ready to pull back the curtain all the way yet. (Soon. I promise. So soon.)

But I wanted to let you peek behind it for a second, because you've been so patient, and because honestly, I'm too excited to keep it completely to myself.

This is the stuff that happens in the quiet, before the big moment. The careful, slightly obsessive, worth-it work.

For a long time, we thought financial literacy was the mission.

But the more I built, the more I realised, it was only the beginning.

Money was never the destination.

It was the gateway to something bigger. Confidence, patience, responsibility, decision-making, generosity, resilience, and independence.

Because when we teach children how to navigate money, we’re really teaching them how to navigate life.

The goal isn’t just to raise financially literate kids.

It’s to help raise capable, confident kids who believe in themselves, make thoughtful decisions, learn from mistakes, and build stronger futures.

That’s the bigger reason One Penny At A Time exists.

Let me be really clear about what I'm doing here. 💛

I am not here to lecture you. I'm not here to tell you what you're doing wrong, or hand you one more thing to feel behind on, or wag a finger about what you "should" already know.

I'm here to cheer you on.

Because parenting is hard enough without someone standing over your shoulder grading you. What most of us actually need isn't more criticism. It's someone in our corner going "you've got this, and here's a little help if you want it."

So that's what this is. A place where you're not behind. Where not knowing something is just fine. Where we figure it out together, and celebrate the small wins, and give each other a whole lot of grace.

You are doing so much better than you think you are. I mean that.

The best thing you can show your kids about learning isn't a lesson. It's watching you still do it. 💛

Kids don't just listen to what we say. They watch what we do. And when they see a grown-up, their grown-up, still taking a class, still asking questions, still admitting "I don't know that yet, let me find out"... that teaches them something no lecture ever could.

It tells them: not knowing something isn't embarrassing. It's just the beginning of learning it.

That's the opposite of how a lot of us grew up, where not knowing felt like a thing to hide. Where you were supposed to already have the answer.

But a kid who watches you stay curious grows into an adult who isn't afraid to say "I need to learn this." And that one skill, being willing to learn, at any age, might be the most important one there is.

So let them catch you learning. It's one of the best things you'll ever model.

A little weekend reflection.

The small moments matter more than the big talks. The car ride. The checkout line. The "but why" for the hundredth time. That's where the real stuff actually happens.

We put so much pressure on ourselves to have the Big Important Conversations. But most of what our kids learn, they catch in the ordinary in-between moments. So if this week felt like a lot of small, unremarkable moments... that was the good stuff.
