To the Christian who feels a little guilty about wanting to build something.
Maybe you heard it at church. Maybe you just absorbed it. The idea that business, wealth, and following Jesus don't mix.
I used to feel ashamed even bringing it up.
But the Bible has a lot more to say about work, wealth, and stewardship than most of us were taught.
Here are 5 verses every entrepreneur should read, and what they actually say.
1. Deuteronomy 8:18
"But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day." (KJV)
Moses is warning Israel not to say "my own hand got me this." The ability to produce comes from God, and so does the purpose.
2. Proverbs 22:29
"Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank." (NIV)
This is a principle, not a promise. But diligence and skill can open doors you never expected.
3. Matthew 25:21
"His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord." (KJV)
The servant is praised for being faithful with what he was given, not for how much he was given. Stewardship is the standard.
4. Proverbs 13:22
A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children, but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous. (NIV)
Children's children. God's picture of a good person includes planning beyond their own lifetime.
5. 1 Timothy 6:10
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. (NIV)
Not money itself. The love of it. The danger starts when money stops being a tool and becomes your master.
Not every believer is called to build wealth. But if God has called you to business, you don't have to be embarrassed about it.
You can pursue financial freedom without worshiping money. You can build something that provides for your family, leaves an inheritance, and funds Kingdom work.
The goal isn't to have more. It's to be a faithful steward of what God puts in your hands.
And it's less about what God can do for you than what He can do through you.
