Motivational Monday | The Path Shifted. Who Will Lead?

When things change fast, your team does not wait for answers. They watch you.

The leaders who move forward with clarity and confidence build trust that lasts. The leaders who act in uncertainty are the ones their teams remember. 🎯

Change is here to stay.

See you at the 2026 Texas Municipal Human Resources Association (TMHRA) Annual Conference on Tuesday, May 5th. Yes, on Cinco de Mayo! 🎉

This is my fourth year on the TMHRA stage. 🍀 Four years in and I am still showing up with something new to say.

TMHRA is committed to growing and developing the HR professionals who keep our communities running. This conference is your opportunity to connect, learn, and leave better equipped than when you arrived. 💯

In my session, “How to Lead When the Path Changes,” we will focus on:

📌 Making confident decisions without perfect information

📌 Practical HR leadership strategies during constant change

📌 How to position your team to succeed even when the path is still forming

The best leaders do not have all the answers. They create momentum anyway.

That momentum starts with one decision.

❓How would your team show up if they knew you could lead them through any change?

Friday Focus | Rooms That Remind You Who You Are

Some rooms just feel different.
This Friday was one of those days.

I walked into the NAWBOdfw
Women’s Leadership Forum and Awards as one of 18 nominees for the 2026 Changemaker Award.

Pause there for a second. 18 women. Each one carrying a story, a business, and a body of work worthy of recognition.

I did not take home the award. And I left full anyway. We always brag about victory. Let’s talk about the race well run. First, congratulations to all of the award winners and pitch competition champion! Well done ladies! 🎉🎊

Proximity to greatness changes you. It stretches your definition of what is possible. From the keynote speakers to three power panels, this day reminds me that your work is being seen, even on the days it feels invisible. Keep going.

Thank you Karen "KJ" Johnson,
Sammi Bivens, MBA, Dr. Lakeiah Cheatham, all of the NAWBO-DFW officers, members, and volunteers. I also appreciate my friends for cheering me on in the room and from afar.

The woman business owner honored as this year’s Changemaker, Alinnette Casiano, made her mark! Cheering for her and the other nominees, is what real community looks like. 💯

One thing that stayed with me from the day was the honesty in the room. Not just about wins, but about the hard decisions, the pivots, and the weight behind building something that lasts.

Those are the conversations that follow you home. Two of the many gems dropped came from Dr. Cheryl Polote-Williamson: “Learn to clap for yourself” and “Get really good at one thing first.”

NAWBO continues to do what many organizations still struggle with. Advocating for women business owners, amplifying our voices, and celebrating our contributions without apology. Friday delivered on that.

If you are a corporate brand, sponsor, or organization wondering how to meaningfully engage with women in business, here is the answer. Show up where we already are. Invest in the communities that are actively building us. Partner and create opportunities.

To the organizers, sponsors, winners, and every fellow nominee, thank you. Friday was a day well spent, and I will not forget it. Especially since two of my mentors were there.

💡 The award did not come home with me. The energy did. Being a nominee is a huge honor! DMX Consulting, LLC.

Thoughtful Thursday | Membership is not a card. It is a mirror.

I walked into the Plano Chamber of CommercePlano Leadership Luncheon expecting a good program. I walked out reminded of who I am and why I do this work.

I watched leaders like Jo Via, Bob Kehr, and Shannah Haley reflect decades of showing up, building trust, and choosing Plano on purpose.

Seeing Sharon Bradley, M.Ed. lead that conversation? Powerful!

What stayed with me most was not the stage. It was the room.

Reconnecting with a Junior League of Collin County friend. Meeting new people. Being in a space where people know your name and your story. That does not happen by accident. It happens through community. DeAdrian Maddox

DMX Consulting, LLC. has been part of the Plano Chamber since 2022. Moments like this are why.

One truth rose above everything: If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.

As entrepreneurs, we get so focused on building that we forget that we were never meant to build alone.

Community is not a nice to have. It is the foundation.

The Plano Chamber turns 80 this year. Eighty years of people choosing each other. That kind of legacy does not just happen. It is built together.

❓What community has shaped you as a leader?

Workforce Wednesday: Roots Grow Deep Outside Your Walls

Last night at a Leadership Plano informational event hosted by Plano Chamber of Commerce, I saw something that stuck with me. Alumni who finished the program years ago were still showing up. Still connected. Still serving.

Nobody talked about a certificate on a wall. They talked about relationships that lasted and how those bonds shaped the way they lead today.

I also got to reconnect with a friend, Amanda Lagan, from my Leadership Frisco XXIV cohort. (Best Class Ever!) Same energy. Same drive to find new ways to give back through leadership and service. Years later, that fire was still burning. That is what real leadership development looks like.

Here is what I keep coming back to as a people leader. The leaders who invest in their communities bring back more than goodwill. They bring back fresh perspective, stronger networks, deeper empathy, and greater influence. They collaborate better. They lead change more effectively. And they stay engaged longer.

Programs like Leadership Plano and Leadership Frisco work because they develop the whole leader, not just the employee inside your organization. The growth that happens outside your walls is just as valuable as anything inside them. Support your people when they want to pursue it.

Thank you, Sharon Bradley, M.Ed., for the invitation. The bonus was Krista Medlock, Shun (Moore)Thomas, Ph.D., and Daphne Warren. 💯

🎯 The future belongs to organizations that build leaders on purpose.

❓How are you developing leaders beyond the walls of your organization?

Leading Where You Live

When I launched DMX Consulting, I realized being a business owner isn’t just about running a company. It’s about showing up for the people who are dedicated to making a difference. That’s why I joined DallasHR.

I’m excited to step into a new role as a DallasHR Ambassador. Today we had our first committee meeting of 2026.

What does an Ambassador do? We make sure members and guests feel welcome. My goal is to help every member feel included and genuinely excited to be part of .

Here’s my advice:
📌 Look for ways to serve in organizations where you hold membership.

📌An open door can lead to new and exciting possibilities.

Special thanks to the 2026 Ambassador Committee Director and my friend, Michele Haugh, and the energetic Director-Elect Tina Hansen.

Shout out to the other dedicated volunteers of the 2026 Ambassador Committee: Kelley Barringer, Sandi Denton, Stacey Ho**er, Alexandra Juarez, Emerald McFerrin, Dawn Owens, Lily Salinas, and Bruce Waller.

Membership comes with perks, but giving back is what really matters.

They told me 50% of businesses fail by year five. I started anyway. 🚀

The same week I launched DMX Consulting in January 2021, Entrepreneur Magazine dropped a reality check: an article titled “The True Failure Rate of Small Businesses.”

It was a heavy start. But there’s a phrase that kept me going: She believed she could, so she did. 🎯

Five years later, I’m not just a statistic. I’m proof that when you lead with heart, you win.

I left the corporate world because I knew one thing to be true: I am people. I love people. You aren’t just a number on a spreadsheet; you are the heartbeat of your business. 🟢

Today, I’m reflecting on 1,825 days of:

📌 People-First Solutions: Putting the human element back into business.

📌 Unlocking Potential: Giving everyone a fair shot to be their best.

📌 Developing Leaders: Because great leaders don’t create followers—they create more leaders.

Whether I’m on a stage or in a coaching session, my mission is the same: to show that when you value people, the failure rates don’t stand a chance. 💯

Thank you to my clients, family, friends, supporters, and this community for being part of this journey. We aren’t just surviving; we’re thriving.

Remember: Leadership isn’t about being in charge; it’s about taking care of those in your charge.
