Because we want you to stay ahead of the personal information thieves, today we're offering up an identity protection best practice that we're pretty sure you've heard before but should REALLY take seriously:

PROTECT YOUR PASSWORDS.
The longer the password, the tougher it is to crack.

Some password tips:
- Use at least 10 characters; 12 is ideal for most home users.
- Mix letters, numbers, and special characters.
- Try to be unpredictable – don’t use your name, birthdate, or common words.
- Don’t use the same password for many accounts.
- Don’t share passwords on the phone, in texts, or by email.
- Keep your passwords in a secure place out of plain sight.

And if this seems like a lot to do and keep track of on your own, there are literally dozens of password security providers out there now (LastPass, Dashlane, LogMeOnce, Bitwarden, 1Password, etc.). Pick one and start using it today.

Your phone system is a mainline way for customers to get that one-on-one interaction.

Are you.....regulating hold times?..picking up within three rings?..answering in a friendly tone?..asking questions?..taking notes?..training your staff for how to answer?

This matters.

Yesterday marks the beginning of the BOI filing requirement (Beneficial Ownership Information). Reporting companies have 1 year to report information to the U.S. government about who ultimately owns and controls them.

Reporting companies include corporations and LLCs as well as any company formed in the US, or any non-US company that registers to do business in the US, by filing a document with a secretary of state or similar office, unless it comes within the scope of an exemption.

To either file your report or determine if you're exempt, go to https://www.fincen.gov/boi.

While this is in front of you, take the time to file your BOI report so you're not in a flurry at the end of the year trying to get that done.

Starting January 1, 2024, many companies will be required to report information to the U.S. government about who ultimately owns and controls them.

Happy New Year!

12/29/2023

With only a few more days left of this year, take a moment to really reflect on what happened in 2023.

What were the greatest challenges you faced as a business owner this year?

12/28/2023

We all start making resolutions for the new year. Work out more. Take that trip. Eat better. Spend more time with loved ones. Pay off some old debt.

But two weeks into the new year, nearly all of us have given up on our good intentions.

If one of your resolutions for 2024 is to make better financial decisions, start with some smaller, easier decisions and then build up over time.

These are some easy, doable ideas to get you started:
- Start saving, even if it's just $50/month, then increase over time.
- Pay off smaller debts and then snowball that payment into the larger debts.
- Reduce your "splurge" amount and funnel that into your emergency fund.
- Cancel some subscriptions and pour that money into paying off a debt.
- Get some professional support for your finances.

In many ways, year-end couldn’t come at a worse time (as if December holiday crazy-making wasn’t enough).

As a business owner you’re also responsible for compiling an entire year’s worth of reporting data into comprehensible form for your accountant, with enough time to spare to make proactive decisions that will improve your tax standing and long-term profitability.

No pressure.

But, a proactive bookkeeping system can help lessen the load this time of year because you’re working on a monthly basis to compile financials into action items BEFORE the year-end crunch.

So, what could you do to improve your year-end process?

Here's something to be thinking about in this final week of 2024...

Write down a snapshot of where you want to be -- financially, vocationally, etc -- in the long-term, and then craft a few steps you can take NOW to go in that direction.

Does it feel...
A) Totally doable
B) Overwhelming and out of reach
C) Reachable, but hard to get there
