Over 1.6 million colonies vanished or died, representing the largest single die-off recorded in modern American agriculture.What makes this situation particularly alarming is the complete reversal of historical patterns. For nearly two decades, large commercial operations—equipped with professional management, systematic parasite monitoring, and substantial financial resources—consistently achieved higher survival rates than small-scale hobbyists. Today, even the most experienced migratory beekeepers are seeing their hives collapse at rates exceeding 60% to 100% in extreme cases.The implications extend far beyond the borders of the United States.
