Tourism is not a hobby.

And that’s one of the biggest reasons most tourism strategies fail.

Too many communities treat tourism like:

events
brochures
social media posts
or business directories

But real destination development is economic competition.

Communities are competing for:

visitor spending
overnight stays
restaurant traffic
retail sales
and ultimately tax revenue

This affects local businesses, jobs, downtown activity, and even pressure on residents’ taxes.

I wrote a breakdown of why so many tourism efforts struggle—and what successful destination development actually requires.

About a year ago, conversations about data centers coming to Warren County were often dismissed as unrealistic or fear mongering.

Next week, the Warren County Planning Commission agenda includes:

A proposed zoning text amendment related to data centers
A Conditional Use Permit request for data centers

At this point, the conversation is no longer hypothetical.

Regardless of where someone stands on the issue, this matters because decisions like these can shape land use, infrastructure, economic development, and the long-term direction of a community for decades.

I wrote a breakdown of why this moment matters and why public engagement now is important.

One of the most interesting parts of the King Charles III visit to Front Royal wasn’t just the visit itself…

It was hearing everyone’s different experiences from that day.

Some people watched from Main Street.
Some worked downtown through the crowds and security.
Some brought their families.
Some drove in just to experience the atmosphere.
Others simply watched the town come alive in a way they hadn’t seen before.

So I’d love to hear from you:

What was the day of the visit like for YOU?

Where were you?
What stood out?
What do you remember most?

Drop your stories, photos, or experiences in the comments.

And if you know someone who was there, share this so we can capture as many perspectives and memories from that day as possible.

it's been 1 week since our visit. Are we taking advantage of this gift that we were given?

A lot of towns focus on getting visitors.

Events. Festivals. Marketing.

And it works… people show up.

But then they leave—and most never come back.

The real question is:
How do you turn visitors into repeat customers?

That’s where the real impact is for small towns and Main Street businesses.

I broke down what actually works here:

Most people visit Shenandoah National Park for the views.

But almost no one realizes…

Before it became a national park, hundreds of families lived on that land.

Homes. Farms. Communities.

All of it is gone now—but not completely.

If you know where to look, you can still find the traces:
old foundations, hidden cemeteries, and pieces of a story that most visitors never hear.

I put together a deep dive into the hidden history of Shenandoah—and it completely changes how you experience the park.

After everything over the past week, I keep seeing the same question…

👉 Is Front Royal actually worth visiting?

Post:
Short answer: yes.

But not just because of the attention it got.

It’s a walkable downtown that still feels real.
It’s the gateway to Shenandoah National Park.
And it’s one of those places that surprises people once they actually spend time here.

After everything that happened last week, I keep seeing the same question…
👉 Why Front Royal?

This wasn’t random.

There’s a reason Front Royal was chosen.

Small town America.
Shenandoah National Park.
A walkable downtown that still feels real.

Give us the credit that we are due. We ARE special in so many ways.

Front Royal had its moment. It was wonderful.

For a few hours, all eyes were on our town. Main Street was full. The energy was real. And people from all over got a glimpse of what we experience here every day.

But moments like that don’t define a place.

What happens next does.

The visit from King Charles III created attention—but the real opportunity is what we do with it. How we tell our story. How we present ourselves. And how we turn awareness into something lasting.

I put together some thoughts on what comes next for Front Royal 👇Please have a look and share.
