As the daylight gets shorter, we are getting a lot of calls about mice. Mice have a very short (19 to 21 day) gestation cycle, with each litter having half a dozen young. One mating pair can produce between 30 and 60 young per year! That's a lot of mice!

Prevention is the best method of population control and September is a great time to get preventative measures in place before mice become established in your home.

Don't mind me! I'm just taking a snack home to feed my youngins!
Have you ever seen a "Dirt-Dauber " as we say in the South? They can also be known as a ..."mud wasp"?
How they feed their young is fascinating and horrifying at the same time.
They hunt spiders, paralyze them with a sting of venom. Then they drag them back to their nests, and stuff them into their mud tube nests. They can stuff up to 30 spiders inside their mud tube. The spiders are are still alive but paralyzed! Then they lay an egg on each spider, seal the tube up which allows fresh spider meat for the larvae when they hatch!
There are 2 kinds of "Dirt Daubers". This blue colored one loves to hunt Black Widows! Dirt Daubers are docile and harmless to humans unless directly grabbed and do not attack as you approach their nest. One of our Techs got this video of a Mama Dirt Dauber doing her job.
Nature is incredible and not all insects are pests! In this case, Dirt Daubers are actually great to have around to cut down on the spider population.

When treating for termites, I'm often asked, "why do you drill holes in the blocks?" As you can see, the termite shelter tube in the picture doesn't extend to the wood in this garage. The most likely reason, is that the initial treatment took care of them*, or they are using the holes in the block to access the wood. That being a possibility, we drill small holes in the block and inject termiticide into the voids.

*We use non repellent termiticides for treatments. This prevents termites from finding gaps in the treatment. Non repellent termiticides, affect the biology of the termite, via transferring the termiticide to each other as they work. This will eliminate the entire colony, including the queen, between 30 and 90 days.

Great people and we highly recommend their services.

This bat decided a bathroom vent was the perfect place to hide. Bats can squeeze through openings as small as a dime!

This is our latest hornets nest removal job. Over the last few weeks we have done a couple of dozen hornet, wasp and yellow jacket treatments. The question we get asked the most is "why are they so bad right now?" The truth is, the nests started increasing in size since spring, with the nest population expanding right around the summer solstice and will continue to grow until late summer. Each one of the cells in the picture.of comb below counts for one hornet. Quite a few!
Be mindful of them when doing yard work, as most nests are found by accident.

Should you come across any nests, give us a call and our team will help you get rid of them.

Something a little different today. A Customer called with a Bald Face Hornet nest in a tree that we could access. These hornets can be pretty aggressive but we managed to get the nest down without anyone getting stung! Including the Tech Mike! 😁

We don't usually get emergency calls from the Techs while under a house, but today, was one of those days πŸ˜‚
This handsome fella was snoozing against the crawlspace door and the Tech was stuck underneath. That door wasn't budging πŸ˜‚
All is well and everyone is safe and sound .
