"You don't remember the taste, you remember the feeling." These words from a fellow Ranger Instructor over some blueberry pancakes helped me realize that we often crave more than the physical - we want to reconnect to something more.

It's a concept I talk about in this episode called "You can never really go home."

Today I had the opportunity to speak at the Memorial Day Observance of the Heritage Pines Community. I was honored to share my experiences while being part of this event. It is important that we remember the fallen.

It's Memorial Day 2026 and I wanted to share a little about the day it became more than a Monday off for me. I also talk a little about veteran su***de because it's a problem that is not going away anytime soon and we need to change this.Neve...

As high school graduation approaches I am having more conversations with seniors about what comes next. I find they, like so many people don't know what to do the day after graduation, or retirement, or job loss. When your purpose changes, what is your reason to get up in the morning? This is why I wanted to explore the Japanese concept of "ikigai".

In this episode I talk about the concept of ‘ikigai”(ee-key-guy) a Japanese concept translating roughly to "a reason for being" or "a reason to wake up in the morning". It was something I was reintroduced to in a recent Netflix limited series...

Despite an allergy attack caused by the massive amounts of pollen in the Raleigh area making it hard to talk and my voice sound terrible, I was able to publish this latest installment of Despite the Limits. This episode is all about the concept of Radical Acceptance.

Pain is pain and it is unpleasant, but it does not have to become suffering. This is the idea behind Radical Acceptance. I think the phrase “It is what it is” sums up the idea.

I'm no social media influencer, I'm just a guy who produces a podcast with the hopes someone's life (or even just their day) is a litte better because they listened. "Until next time friends."

We moved into a new house recently and I’ve taken the opportunity to build my home gym. In this episode I talk about five indicators of longevity as listed on the “Barbell Medicine” Podcast episode #386, Longevity Myths.  Here is a link to th...

I've always been a bit of a science nerd a lately understanding the neuroscience behind fear has been an interest for me. As we run headlong into the new year full of certainty, I explore how we may be able to overcome or at least face some of our fears.

Welcome season 3 of Despite the Limits. 2026 is well underway and there is a feeling of uncertainty in our world today. Our economic and political climates are volatile to say the least. One of my coping mechanisms is to look for light news storie...

Today is the first day of 2026 and I watched the sunrise over Corpus Christi Bay. I couldn’t help but think about the many posts I saw over the past week wanting 2025 to be over because it was the worst year ever. The sentiment is something I don’t understand.

My feelings about the passing of the torch from “Father Time” to “Baby New Year” are ambivalent. In fact, I go to bed on New Year’s Eve like any other day knowing it will happen whether I “ring” it in or not.

Time passes, the sun rises, and we get another day to choose how we want our lives to be. We choose and then roll up our sleeves to make our choices a reality.

I’m enjoying my winter break but as the week winds down I’m increasingly thinking about how I’m going to where to take my podcast in season three.

I don’t have all the answers but I choose to believe last year was the year I made it and this year will be as awesome as I choose it to be. If I can help you in your leadership journey, message me.

Here’s to 2026 my friends, may your year be blessed!

Tomorrow is both a new day and the start of the New Year. In this final episode of “Despite the Limits” Season 2, I talk about “The Six Mistakes of Man” a work thousands of years old but still relevant today. There really is nothing new under the sun.

I want to thank you for taking the time to listen to my podcast and wish you a Happy New Year. While I do not know what 2026 holds in store for us, I will continue to podcast and always welcome your thoughts. The journey of a new year starts tomorrow, so let’s go.

In this last episode of Season 2, I look at “The Six Mistakes of Man”.Marcus Tullius Cicero (106 BC - 43 BC) was a Roman statesman and scholar whose work was admired by ancient scholars and is also admired by modern scholars today. It appears we h...

Fear seems to be everywhere these days and it is an interesting paradox. Fear often keeps is from trying the very things we need to do to succeed which in turn guarantees our fears become reality.

I thought a lot about fear in October and since this episode of the podcast released on Halloween, it seemed like a good time to talk about it. What do you think about fear?

I release the podcast on the last Friday of each month, which means this episode went public on Halloween. Since so much of the season seems to be centered on scary stories and creepy decorations in the neighborhoods it seemed like a good time to ...

Life often comes at you hard and fast. Sometimes we just want the hardship to end, but we need to accept some the realities of our situation if we are to advance. In my latest podcast, I explore the Stockdale Paradox which I originally learned as "Embrace the Suck"!
