BOLDer Magazine & OMMEP
Make Outreach Easy!

Right now is the perfect time to put a school program in place and bring earth science to life for Grades 4-8. Reach out today and we will help you set up a BOLDer program, put classroom presentations together, and even help arrange field trips.

While building long-lasting and positive relationships, community outreach is made easy by being a BOLDer-OMMEP Partner. These efforts build positive PR and engagement with the next generation of our future workforce in your community.

BOLDer Magazine features stories and fun, interactive content around construction materials and mining every month while encouraging kids to get offline and explore outdoors! BOLDer is proudly in print and does not include advertising. Call or email Bronwyn Weaver Archibald at 630-800-6468 or [email protected] and get started!

Here is what people are saying about BOLDer:

"We believe BOLDer magazine is an excellent addition to our grades 4–6 curriculum, as it supports both science and reading instruction in meaningful, age-appropriate ways. Teachers integrate selected articles into lessons, using them for guided reading and discussion, followed by brief comprehension assessments. Additionally, students gain a deeper appreciation for our abundant, God-given natural resources while enjoying a high-quality, consumable magazine they take home and share with their families. This home-to-school connection fosters continued learning beyond the classroom. We love the opportunity to bring BOLDer into our classrooms and believe it makes a lasting impact on our students’ academic growth, curiosity, and critical thinking skills. The teachers love these so much more than the other magazines they have been using. The stories are richer and they are learning so much while enjoying what they are reading! Students are reading their assigned articles and preparing to present a lesson to the class based on their assigned article. Thank you!"

Elizabeth, school principal

"I am so excited to use Bolder Magazine as a resource in our science and social studies classes. I have been going through the magazines I have so far and flagging passages and reading that will add to students’ understanding of important concepts. The articles are colorful and engaging and interesting! They are also kid-friendly and sure to be engaging for our students. After I’ve identified all the articles I want to put in front of students, I will also make them available in my classroom library. I’m sure I’ll find many more ways to include them in our content area reading."

Jeannine, teacher

"After receiving the first two issues of BOLDer Magazine and thumbing through, I fell in love. My daughter is very engaged, and my husband enjoys reading them to her, too. These magazines are right up our alley and I am so thrilled to have found them. I will be spreading the word about your magazine with our other homeschool friends and our co-op. Thank you and the team at BOLDer for being my favorite publication!"

Where Mining and Agriculture Meet - Aglime!
With fall harvest in full-swing and the 62nd year of the OSU Farm Science Review, about to begin, this is a great time to highlight where “Mining and Agriculture Meet”. See you at Tent 1, Booth 22.
Aglime or Agricultural Lime is produced by Ohio Aglime members (also members of OAIMA) across the state to help farmers maintain a balanced soil pH, maximize yields, and reduce runoff.
What does Aglime Do?
• Aglime neutralizes soil pH and cuts fertilizer costs by making fertilizer more available to plant roots.
o Fertilizers that contain nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium and other essential nutrients are dramatically affected by soil acidity. Most fertilizers are more effective in slightly acidic to neutral soils.
• Aglime boosts the performance of certain herbicides.
o As with fertilizer, modern herbicides are most effective when soil pH is slightly acidic (pH of 6.5) to neutral (pH of 7.0). When soils are more acidic, herbicides attach to soil particles, reducing their ability to control w**d growth.
• Aglime improves the chemical, biological and physical conditions of the soil.
o Water filtration, drainage, and the healthy growth of beneficial microorganisms are improved by the proper application of Aglime
o The proper application of Aglime cuts down on the amount of fertilizers and herbicides needed.
o Runoff of fertilizers and herbicides is reduced.

The Ohio General Assembly has designated this week (July 14-20th) as "Ohio Aggregates and Industrial Minerals Awareness Week".
Did you know that aggregates are the backbone of our daily lives? From the roads we drive on to the buildings we live in, aggregates play a crucial role in our infrastructure. Let's take a moment to appreciate the hard work and dedication of the Ohio aggregates industry and the employees that make it happen.

Great turnout for Kettering Family STEAM night. OAIMA members Maggie Archibald and Dan O'Connor (Q4 Impact) and Pat Jacomet (OAIMA) distributed 120 "Rocksy the Mining Dog" activity books and rock and mineral educational kits. We talked with students and parents about rocks and minerals in our society and the great careers associated with our industry.

OAIMA/Ohio Geological Survey and RT Industries Celebrate 100,000 Rock and Mineral Kits

The OAIMA and our members are proud to recognize the efforts of RT Industries in Troy, Ohio.

This incredible organization provides pre-employment training and paid work experience to prepare school-age students through aging adults with developmental disabilities in Miami County as well as the surrounding counties.

Since 1997, RT Industries has also provided Ohio geology and earth science teachers with more than 100,000 rock and mineral education kits for classroom instruction, through a partnership with the OAIMA, Ohio Mining and Mineral Education Program, and Ohio Geological Survey.

Many local OAIMA members attended the event and got a first-hand look at this incredible organization and the process for assembly of the rock and mineral educational kits.

Thank you to Congressman Mike Carey, State Geologist Mark Jones, Troy mayor Robin Oda and RT Industries CEO Ashley Brocious for a great event celebrating our ongoing partnership with RT Industries.
