Financial independence isn't just about how much money you have. It's also about having the confidence to make your own decisions. Itโ€™s time that we start to encourage women to take charge of their finances as an important step in negotiating a better situation for themselves and their families!

Thatโ€™s why Iโ€™m excited to announce that in September, I will be hosting alongside fellow executive coach, Becky Arce, a ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฒ-๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜ ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐˜€ ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—ช๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐— ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜†!

The series is designed to provide a safe place to have honest conversations about money. We hope you will join us as we dig into the origins of our perceptions around money and what motivates financial decisions.

Every generation has its version of โ€œI had to walk uphill to school in the winter with no shoes onโ€. The basic concept here is โ€œwe had it harderโ€. However, I think everyone would admit that the last few years have really set off a series of political and environmental firsts that have many confused, and sometimes overwhelmed.

I am typically a โ€œcup half fullโ€ person, but I am in the camp of folks trying to navigate in this time of uncertainty and have been coaching many others who are feeling overwhelmed or stuck.

Common Questions that pop up during coaching
How do I move forward in todayโ€™s environment?
How do I show up for my family?
How can I continue to lead effectively?
What does my financial future look like?

Since my goal is to help people navigate, it feels particularly important for me to have an approach to dealing with todayโ€™s environment. I decided to use ACCEPT as an acronym to put things in perspective so I can continue to move forward in a positive way. I am sharing my thoughts below and hope this will be helpful for you.

ACCEPT
Acknowledge that these days are different. It feels like we are in unprecedented times and much of it is not easy.

Cultivate your own garden. Do what you can within your sphere of influence, to make things better.

Call someone. If you feel overwhelmed or need support, call a friend or someone you can talk to.

Energize yourself. Find an activity or something that makes you happy and be intentional about making time to do it.

Keep Perspective as much as possible; try to put a positive spin on whatever you are dealing with.

Take Time to center yourself when you feel you need to. Have lunch. Go for a walk. Give yourself permission to be in the moment and be less than perfect.

If you would like to talk with a certified professional coach about making changes in your life, schedule a free introductory call at https://coeconsulting.net/contact-1. Together we will identify a clear plan of action to help you succeed in your self-improvement goals.

31 Flavors

I can still remember the feelings of conflict I endured as a child standing at the counter of the ice cream store and having to answer the ultimate question โ€œwhat can I get for you?โ€ I had my favorites for sure, but even choosing between those seemed to come at a cost. What if I should have picked the chocolate chip mint? I smile now, but it felt like a pretty weighty decision at the time!

As adults, we can get so caught up in the path we are on that we sometimes forget that we have options. Maybe you are feeling stuck in a job you donโ€™t like, or you are having issues with a coworker. Perhaps as a byproduct of the pandemic you are feeling isolated, or you are having difficulty articulating your career goals. Itโ€™s time to remind yourself that you have choices! We all have some limitations to consider but taking the time to really look at all the options can be rewarding.

Coaching is an excellent way to allow yourself the space to explore. As a coach, itโ€™s my job to help you identify what you are looking to change and help you be curious about what flavors are available to you. Then we work together to customize your path forward.

If this sounds interesting, visit my website at http://coeconsulting.net and sign up for a free introductory chat. I canโ€™t include an ice cream cone, but I believe coaching can be just as sweet.

Felicity

Celebrating Uniqueness

A few years ago my husband and I were packing the house for a move. My daughter-in-law was helping load up kitchen items while we ran some errands and she sent me this text: โ€œDo you know how many mugs you have? Who could need this many mugs?โ€

It's true, I have a lot of mugs. I generally love clearing out cluttered cabinets and putting unneeded items back into circulation, but my mugs are the one exception.

For me, every mug is different. When I open my cupboard, I see options! Maybe Iโ€™m having hot chocolate and I want a mug thatโ€™s a bit larger, or perhaps my morning tea calls for a sleeker profile. It could be that Iโ€™m feeling sentimental and reach for a mug my sister gave me. Each mug in my collection has unique qualities, just like every one of us.

When we work with others, either one-on-one or with a larger team, we are gifted with a variety of perspectives โ€” options. Research shows that diversity can bring about amazing results. When a variety of experiences and backgrounds are used to problem solve, the team draw on individual strengths to identify more creative solutions.

Being open to unique and varied approaches to solving team issues and meet goals is critical, but it starts with the essential work of pulling together a diverse team that can perform at the highest level. Once youโ€™ve got your team in place you can take steps to increase team performance by developing enough trust to work through conflict together, leading to faster decisions and a true competitive advantage. Getting to know teammates better will enable everyone to draw on each otherโ€™s strengths to deliver your collective best.

Whether you manage a team or are part of one, it is up to each of us to reach out and get to know the distinct skills, knowledge, and abilities of our colleagues. Maybe that starts with a few minutes of conversation over a favorite mug of tea or coffee.

It felt a bit like a gut punchโ€ฆ

It was nearly two decades ago, but I still remember it clearly. The organization I was working for had just gone through a transition and many roles were shifting. I was fortunate enough to secure a job on a new team and one of the executives in the company was taking several of us to a celebration dinner. As we walked from the parking lot to the restaurant, he inquired about my new position. I started to respond when we were interrupted by another colleague of his who was walking by. Can you guess what happened next? If you guessed that I was left mid-sentence to talk to myself, you are correct. It felt a bit like a gut punch.

I think we might all agree that the executiveโ€™s behavior was at best, rude. But what has stuck with me throughout my career was how this interaction made me feel. It was as though my new role and the excitement I was feeling about being part of the change really didnโ€™t matter. Honestly, Iโ€™m grateful for the interaction with that executive, because as a result I have worked hard to never intentionally repeat such behavior. That night I learned first-hand the power of oneโ€™s actions, and how important it is to be aware of how they impact others.

Make no mistake, what you say as a leader is important. However, how our actions are interpreted is also critical. Does the person you are speaking to feel respected? Are you being appropriately thoughtful and compassionate? As a leader you will inevitably need to give some unwanted feedback but doing so with awareness of impact can make all the difference in strengthening a relationship versus tearing it down.

As a leader, you want others to feel heard and valued. Whether itโ€™s in a formal meeting or just a conversation in a parking lot, itโ€™s worth taking a minute to think about how you want someone to feel after your time together. Those you interact with may not remember every word you say, but there is a good chance they will remember how you made them feel!

Growing up I loved going swimming. Inside or out, beach or pool it was always a favorite activity. Somehow as I got older however it got significantly more difficult to get into a cold pool to do laps so my interest wained. Earlier this year, however, I found out that a local gym has a heated pool and that changes everything! Now I swim 3 times a week and Iโ€™m loving it.

So what is it that could โ€œchange everythingโ€ for you? What is that one thing that you could do differently to bring about wanted change? It could be a shift in your schedule or setting time aside to learn something new. Maybe it means approaching someone you work with in a different way. The point is that sometimes even a simple change can have significant impact. Whatever it might be for you coaching is a great way to explore where you are now, where you want to go, and how you are going to get there.

Working with a coach you can identify your strengths to help you capitalize on what you already do well. You can use exploration to further understand yourself and others, and work toward your goals for the future. I believe that coaching works best when it is customized to meet the unique needs of the person looking for change, and Iโ€™d love to schedule a free introductory chat to see how together we can create a forward plan that works specifically for you.

Something New in 2022

Happy New Year everyone. Iโ€™m thrilled to share exciting news! I have just launched Coe Consulting LLC where I work with leaders at all levels within an organization to focus on coaching, team building, and leadership development.

Steve Jobs once said, โ€œHave the courage to follow your heart and intuition; they somehow already know what you truly want to become.โ€

Once I gave these words some time to percolate, I realized that my passion is working with others to be a catalyst for growth; helping you and your team maximize potential. I am in the process of completing my Certified Professional Coaching Certification at the College of Executive Coaching. Iโ€™ve taken additional DiSC training and I am an authorized facilitator of DiSC and Five Behaviors assessments. I also work with 360 and Myers Briggs assessments. It gives me great satisfaction to use my experience, assessment tools, and other resources to help you move forward.

The new year is often greeted with resolutions and reintroduced commitments. Whether it be a renewed focus on professional growth or better work-life balance, itโ€™s the time of year when we seem to allow for possibilities โ€” a good opportunity to step out of our comfort zones and reach for something different. Iโ€™m really excited about the opportunities coaching brings; using curiosity and openness to create new relationships and foster change.
Are there outstanding items on your or your companyโ€™s growth list? Perhaps you want to become a superior leader or manager, improve team relationships, or find a job that better fits your passion. I encourage you to tap into what inspires you as we dive into 2022.

If you or someone you know is looking to take that next step, check out my website at coeconsulting.net to learn more and schedule a free introductory chat to get started. Use the links below to reach out.

Happy New Year โ€” I hope that 2022 is your best yet!

Felicity
