It’s been a busy couple of weeks. It’s always a great feeling helping customers find solutions to their unique challenges. From working through fire code issues to helping them discover the many different opportunities Agritourism offers, I work hard to help them be successful. One of the great things about my job is when customers become friends. Jody Thrift and his family have a fantastic venue. Join them for a fantastic experience for the whole family. Also like and follow their page to stay up to date on some amazing upcoming events.

40 plus years in the business, Joey Thrift will still fire off his 120+ year sawmill and saw custom lumber, sell rare pieces (only some that he isnt attached to) they have, or love showing you around the farm that they have worked so hard to create and keep going for the family and friends in mind.

It’s been a busy week. I’m taking the time tonight to go through my thoughts on how to best serve my potential clients. What strategies will help them be successful? As an Agritourism operator in Florida, did you know that you have to get a classification inspection from your local fire marshal on your buildings before you start your operation. You are also required to get an inspection once a year. If you need help with this or want to learn more about fire safety requirements, please send me a message.

Why am I doing this? Why do I want to help Agritourism succeed? How am I qualified for this? These are all good questions. I grew up on a small cattle ranch. We diversified our operations with a small citrus grove. I learned early on that in order to thrive, agriculture operations need to be diverse. Like many people, I see the decline in small to medium agriculture operations. Agritourism offers a way to slow that decline. Growing up I entered the fire service. I am currently the Fire Marshal for a large department in Florida. Florida has unique fire prevention requirements for Agritourism. These can often be confusing for both Fire Marshals and Agritourism operators. I want to help bridge that gap. I want to see Agritourism succeed. If I can assist you, please reach out.

Just finished cleaning up some of the debris from Hurricane Debby. I do a quick check of my email and see that the State of Florida has approved the LLC. A few more items on the checklist and I’ll start seeing customers. This is the start of an exciting journey for me. Thank you for joining me on it.

Last Monday I had the honor of being a presenter at the 2024 Florida Agritourism Association annual conference. It was great meeting so many Agritourism operators. Agritourism is a growing industry and Florida is setting the example for the rest of the nation.

I don’t really share about me but I decided I would share this. I’ve always struggled with my weight. I’m always going to be big. That’s just my body type. But I decided about 2 1/2 years ago that I was too big. I was miserable. So I changed my diet and started exercising more. There is still a lot of room for improvement. But an inch of progress is still progress. Anything is possible.
