๐จ George Clinton Faces Revived Royalty Lawsuit Over Parliament-Funkadelic Earnings*
A U.S. appeals court has revived a lawsuit against ๎George Clinton reopening a long-running dispute over unpaid royalties tied to the legacy of Parliament-Funkadelic.
The case, brought by the estate of late keyboardist ๎Bernie Worrell has been sent back to Michigan federal court after the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the claims may not have been filed too late.
At the heart of the dispute is a 1976 agreement between Clinton and Worrell following years of informal arrangements. Worrell, a key creative force in the band from 1969 to 1981, previously filed lawsuits in the 1980s over unpaid royalties. His estate revived the case in 2019 and 2022 after his passing in 2016.
The court found that the statute of limitations may have started later than previously ruled, allowing the estateโs claims to move forward.
๐ถ The decision adds another chapter to the long-running legal and financial battles surrounding Parliament-Funkadelicโs music legacy.
