What started as coffee turned into nearly two hours of making introductions, discovering the intersections in our work, and exploring how our different professional experiences can strengthen the organizations we serve.

We talked about being “DOGE’d,” unexpected career turns, and how the skills we developed in former roles continue to fuel our current passions.

What I value most about this group is the depth of expertise around the table. Each of these talented women supports nonprofits and impact-driven organizations from a different angle, from operations and project management to evaluation and events.

Clients benefit when trusted specialists can think across functions, connect the dots, and bring the right expertise together around their goals. I’m super grateful to have Deb Geiger, Michelle Resig, and Tina Faulkner as part of the extended team supporting Wendie Veloz Enterprises and our clients.

Bonus: We ran into Chris Patterson of Banging BBQ (speaking of our wonderful clients). Never a dull moment at Barking Mad!

Leading the United Way of the National Capital Area’s executive leadership retreat was one of the highlights of my fall.

We spent the day at The Collective at PwC creating space for the kind of conversations leadership teams often do not get enough time to have. We dug into Radical Candor®, challenged old ways of thinking, talked strategy and culture, and started shaping what UWNCA’s next chapter can look like.

What stood out most was how fully the team showed up. Honest conversations, real reflection, and a willingness to do the hard work of leading through change.

This is exactly why I love facilitation. The goal is not just a good meeting. It is helping leaders leave with more clarity, stronger alignment, and a better path forward.

Five years ago today I committed to starting my own business and making it it work. I never dreamed how much life would change.

These last few months have been the busiest season yet. Facilitating, serving clients, making new business besties and serving communities across the nation.

When I lost my job in June 2021, it felt like the world was crumbling around me. My job, house, and relationship all shifted in the same month. A month after starting my business, I abruptly put my plans on hold to provide in-home hospice care for my grandmother in California.

Being able to take time off to heal myself, grow, and show that being a business owner was possible is one of the best gifts I could given myself.

Now I have a wild story to tell, and more importantly SHOW others that anything is possible.

It's possible to create a business from scratch, focused on impact using your own blueprint.

It's possible to monetize the skill you use to serve someone else's mission every day.

It's possible to use your voice and your gifts to create meaningful change in the ways YOU envision.

I always share with clients that after year five is usually where the biggest shifts happen. When you have a strategy, know how to execute it, and have the right resources to do so. That's where the foundation of sustainability for growth in years 6-10 is laid.

Year 5 is where I've seen lots of "projects" fail. Without a strategy, without showing outcomes, without using the lessons and data from implementing years of actions.

As I sit on the beginning of a new chapter for WVE- I want to assure you, the end is nowhere in sight. We're just getting some serious momentum and I can't wait to share what is coming up next.

Thanks for being here, thank you to clients, friends, and colleagues who have helped this business survive and thrive in the past five years.

Shoutout to these two amazing humans! Hilary Schwab and James Bonato understood the assignment last week at our Systems Thinking Systems Changing simulation.

Both showed up ready to capture the exciting moments with a smile. (Even though I booked them the week before the event!)

So grateful to have such awesome colleagues from the Gaithersburg Germantown Upcounty Chamber! Thank you both for joining the team and making the day a success!

Who takes care of the heroes? Who makes sure the folks who give everything take time to nurture themselves?

This is such a great question- asked by Montgomery County School Board member Grace Rivera-Oven. Who also happens to run a local nonprofit.

Professional development shouldn't be an afterthought. Creating the space for nonprofit leaders to connect and grow together should be the norm, not the exception.

That's what makes my client Nonprofit Montgomery's work so powerful.

The small but mighty team stays nimble to respond to the needs of a ever-changing nonprofit sector in Montgomery County, MD. Every year planning and executing various types of supports and capacity building opportunities for local nonprofit professionals and leaders.

Giving back to the givers is something humbling that always fuels my soul and work for years to come. Days like our Systems Thinking Systems Changing simulation stand out as rare occasions when all the stars align to create a space that can't be duplicated or reproduced.

Thanks to all the leaders who took a whole day away from serving the community to focus on themselves and the team who helped make it happen.

Facilitating for such a powerful room is definitely a 2026 highlight. Looking forward to many more conversations and deeper work through the Conveners Circle planning process. Excited to see how we can continue to support the nonprofit sector!

It's been a quiet week on social media but a busy week for team WVE!

We've been deep in client chats, building boxes of joy, and stocking up on supplies for the Systems Thinking Systems Changing simulation this week with Nonprofit Montgomery.

Cairn Guidance (Jess Lawerence) and I are facilitating this packed and powerhouse audience of nonprofit and local government leaders from across Montgomery County.

We'll be getting deep into how change happens, how to create the right conditions for change, and what leaders do to create environments ripe for meaningful change. Plus, a bonus- how these organizations can work together to create change across systems and partnership networks. 🔥 🔥 🔥

This work is truly epic, groundbreaking, and humbling. I'm so thankful for Wendie Veloz Enterprises, LLC to be a catalyst for change and connecting so many different parts of my network from across the nation to make this event happen.

So glad Hilary Schwab and James Bonato will be along to document the day for us! Thank you friends for stepping up so quickly to hop on board.

Anyone else feeling like this trying to grow your business?

This week I had the best time at the Montgomery County Fair watching Monster Trucks break themselves.

The drivers were so confident that even when his wheel fell off, the dump truck drove off with three wheels.

I'm not sure who in my business network feels like you'r driving with three wheels trying to grow, scale, and mange it all.

I'm sure you also made this face along the way. My personal favorite face captured in 2026.

Another grant may buy you time. However, a sustainable funding model is a game-changer.

When your organization is moving from grant to grant, it’s easy to think the next grant award will kick the can down the road long enough for you to solve the problem. Or long enough for another grant to come and take over.

But this feeling is telling you that the larger system is not sustainable and your organization will eventually feel the same pressure again and gain.

When you start to ask your team the same questions we walk clients through- you'll see how outcomes and buy-in shifts.

- What are we actually trying to sustain? (We is intentional here, so the team is part of the decision to move forward in a new direction)
- What will it require in money, people, time, partnerships, and leadership energy? (If you can't use these resources to fuel your next chapter, you're sunk)
- What funding mix fits our mission and real capacity? (Diversifying means more than one!)

Rebuilding your funding model takes time and thoughtful dialogue.

Choose one important program and use these questions to start the conversation with your team.

Connecting the dots is where transformation happens.

Kayla and Patrice of Ride MoCo started coaching 8 months ago thinking about starting their first programming for Rooted in Unity.

Through an Idea Surgery™️ session we identified their goal- to connect people with the healing power of horses- through awareness raising at events and programming for organizations.

Continuing to support them through the Montgomery County Black Collective's Amber Program coaching was such a joy.

Seeing how much growth they've made in a short time- refining their event ideas and creating a sustainable marketing strategy to grow upon.
