My Dear Residents,
The 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season starts today, June 1, 2023, and ends on November 30, 2023. Rest assured that Our City is prepared and ready to respond to emergencies. Our Office of Emergency Management, Police Department, and Fire Department have the necessary rescue equipment, such as Drones for Search & Rescue, Rescue Boats, High Water Vehicles, Siren Systems, and Satellite Phones, to respond quickly and efficiently to any situation.

To ensure your safety at home, please consider the following steps:
1. Create a family communication plan and agree on ways to contact each other in an emergency.
2. Sign up for the City's mass notification system immediately by texting SWIFT911 to 99538, clicking on the link in the text message, and following the instructions. Alternatively, you can email us your information at [email protected].
3. Prepare an emergency supply kit that includes non-perishable food, water, a flashlight, a first aid kit, and a cell phone with chargers for at least three days.

La temporada de huracanes comienza hoy, 1 de Junio de 2023 y finaliza el 30 de Noviembre del 2023. Tenga la seguridad de que Nuestra Ciudad está preparada y lista para responder a cualquier emergencia. Nuestra Oficina de Manejo de Emergencias, el Departamento de Policía y el Departamento de Bomberos cuentan con el equipo de rescate necesario, como drones para búsqueda y rescate, botes de rescate, vehículos para aguas altas, sistemas de sirenas y teléfonos satelitales, para responder de manera rápida y eficiente a cualquier situación.

Para garantizar su seguridad en el hogar, considere los siguientes pasos:
1. Tenga un plan de comunicación con su familia en caso de emergencia.
2. Regístrese inmediatamente en el sistema de notificación masiva de la Ciudad enviando un mensaje de texto SWIFT911 al 99538, haciendo clic en el enlace del mensaje de texto y siguiendo las instrucciones. Alternativamente, puede enviarnos su información por correo electrónico a [email protected].
3. Prepare un botiquín de suministros de emergencia que incluya alimentos no perecederos, agua, una linterna, un botiquín de primeros auxilios y un teléfono celular con cargadores para al menos tres días.

On April 3, 2023, at approximately 10:00 pm the City’s 9-1-1 dispatch began to receive calls regarding a strong odor throughout the Western part of the City. Immediately the Fire Department began to monitor the air at multiple locations in the city. No levels of threat were detected by handheld detectors. The Harris County Pollution Control was contacted for assistance. Winds that carried the smell began from the South and continued to move to the North.

The odor dissipated and continued to move North through Jacinto City and into Houston. We will continue to investigate until we can identify a source.
No source within the City limits of Galena Park has been identified.

El 3 de abril del 2023, aproximadamente a las 10:00 pm, el despacho del 9-1-1 de la ciudad comenzó a recibir llamadas relacionadas con un fuerte olor en toda la parte occidental de la ciudad. Inmediatamente, el Departamento de Bomberos comenzó a monitorear el aire en varios lugares de la ciudad. Los detectores portátiles no detectaron ningún nivel de amenaza o peligro en nuestra ciudad. También se contactó al departamento de Control de Contaminación del Condado de Harris para solicitar ayuda. Los vientos que llevaban el olor comenzaron desde el Sur y continuaron moviéndose hacia el Norte.

El olor se disipó y continuó moviéndose hacia el norte a través de la ciudad de Jacinto y hacia Houston. Continuaremos investigando hasta que podamos identificar una fuente de origen.

No se ha identificado ninguna fuente de origen de este problema dentro de los límites de la ciudad de Galena Park.

The office of Emergency Management investigated the reports of a strong odor affecting the city. Based on the current wind direction and speed, and the quality index reported by the city’s fire department, everything has passed. We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated.

The Galena Park Emergency Management department will be conducting a test on March 27, 2023, between 2 and 4 PM on the new Outdoor Mass Notification System (sirens). The message will be in both English and Spanish.

Update:

I would like to thank our Galena Park Police Department and the Harris County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Division for responding to the incident that occurred yesterday, February 16, 2023. Due to their quick response – the suspect has been apprehended and is now in custody.

My condolences to the family, friends, and all that were affected by this terrible incident; my heart, and prayers are with them.

The city of Galena Park is grieving for the victim of the senseless crime near the Alvin D. Baggett Community Center yesterday afternoon. I mourn this horrific loss and urge all citizens to unite and pray for the families to show our unwavering support to all suffering. I appreciate the first responders’ work and diligence during this difficult time.

Galena Park ISD Crisis Response Team and the Galena Park High School counselors are available for students and staff if needed.

I am excited to announce the installation of the Mass Notification Siren System in Central Galena Park, Galena Manor, and New Woodland Acres! This project will enable the City of Galena Park to notify ALL our citizens in a rapid, efficient, and effective manner in the event of a significant incident, whether that is a weather event, industrial accident, chemical release and or another incident type that would require us to issue a shelter in place or even an evacuation order.
These mass notification systems have a proven track record of alerting the public to potentially life-threatening emergencies. In addition, this system will enable us to issue alerts with a siren tone notification and, more importantly, with verbal explanations in both English and Spanish.
I thank Commissioner Adrian Garcia, Harris County Precinct 2, Economic Alliance Houston Port Region, and ExxonMobil, who made this project possible.

¡Estoy muy emocionada de anunciar la instalación del Sistema de de Notificación Masiva con Sirenas en Galena Park, incluyendo Galena Manor y Woodland Acres! Este proyecto nos permitirá notificar a TODOS nuestros ciudadanos de manera rápida, eficiente y efectiva en caso de un incidente importante, ya sea un evento meteorológico, un accidente industrial u otro tipo de incidente que requiera que emitamos alguna orden de evacuación u otro.
Estos sistemas de notificación masiva tienen un historial comprobado de alertar al público sobre emergencias potencialmente mortales. Además, este sistema nos permitirá emitir alertas con una notificación de tono de sirena y, lo que es más importante, con explicaciones verbales tanto en inglés como en español.
Agradezco al Comisionado Adrián García del Precinto 2 del Condado de Harris, a la Alianza Económica de la Región Portuaria de Houston y a ExxonMobil, quienes hicieron posible este proyecto.
