This project started with solving water issues around the home by installing a French drain system designed to move water away from the foundation and improve long-term drainage across the property.

Once the underground work was complete, we tied the space together with a tumbled paver patio and walkway designed to match the character of the home. The aged texture and softened edges of the pavers give the project an old-world feel while still delivering the strength and durability of a modern paver system.

This hillside barn project includes black half-round gutters, underground drainage, French drains, erosion control, decorative boulder outcroppings, and a new stone driveway package around the entire barn.

The goal is to protect this vulnerable hillside from water runoff while creating a clean finished look that fits the property naturally. Gutter downspouts and hillside water will be directed into a drainage system and discharged safely away from the barn with the use of a sump system.

We’ll also be establishing crown vetch and straw blanket matting across the hillside to help stabilize the slope and reduce erosion long term. The boulders will help slow water down naturally while tying the entire landscape together.

Cut and removed concrete to tie the gutter drainage into the new French drain system. Proper pitch, compaction, and water flow all getting dialed in before concrete goes back in.

A lot of drainage work and compaction happens underground where nobody sees it… but that’s usually the part that matters most.

Installed a French drain system in Richland, Michigan to help redirect standing water and gutter downspout discharge away from the foundation and window well area of the home.

We also removed the old concrete slab and replaced it with a permeable flagstone pad to improve drainage and water infiltration in the area.
